Recently did my first personal oil change on the 4runner. The previous oil (Mobil 1EP 5W-30) was in there for 10K miles, I replaced the oil filter at 5K.
Though the temps have recently dropped here in Vegas, bringing much more reasonable running temps, I have seen average MPG readings of 16.6-16.9 city and 18.6-19.1 as a combined cycle.
I recently switched over from Mobil1EP 5w30 to Royal Purple 10W30 combined with a Purolator Pure1 filter. Over the holiday weekend down to Costa Mesa, CA I saw 21.2 on the way down there (including city driving) and 22.4 on the way back up after changing over to the royal purple. Average travel speeds remained the same as my normal highway travel (speeds up to 90, general cruise in the 70-80 range).
My last tank ran 350 miles with about 30 miles left (give the OBC) and im still on my return tank with a lil' less than 1/4 to remain.
Im actually quite impressed with the royal purple thus far. Ill take a 1% MPG increase by switching over in oil and going up one viscosity grade.
