Oil overfill on change today?

I have an 04 Limited V8 and had engine oil/filter change at Midas. When I went to pick it up, I saw on the slip that they had put in 7.3 qts of oil. That seemed high so when I got home, I checked my manual. For the V8, it says 6.6 qts with filter. I then checked the dipstick, and the oil mark is above the top dot (maybe an 1/8" higher. Will I run into problems with this? I don't want any leaks. Thanks.

I put 6.5 in my 03 V8 every time. Measures between the two dots. I would take it back and tell em to redo it, why risk it, thats too much oil

My V8 takes just shy of 7 quarts when the filter is changed as well. Manual says 6.5 but I always end up w/ nearly 7 qts. Main thing is you want the level between the lines when you check the dip stick...they may have over filled it slightly. Just have the drain a bit and ensure the level is right.

I drained out some oil (mostly onto garage floor) and now the level is just shy of the fill dot on dipstick. Thanks everyone for your help.

How much do you think u drained out?

7.2 qts is the v8 capacity with a filter change

7.2 is the DRY fill amount. As in if the motor is new and never had oil, or they rebuild it, thus having no oil in it as well. Manual states 6.5 because you will never get all 7.2 qts out. Just my .02 .....Brah

right at the top. have driven a combined 300k+ on the 3 V8's that i maintained this way with not even a CEL.

Hey guys sorry to resurrect an old thread but I can't start my own since I am a new member.

Anyway my problem is that I overfilled the oil on my last oil change 10 days ago. Attached is a picture of the dipstick. It doesn't seem to be too far over. Normally I wouldn't worry about it that much but I noticed some foam in my oil cap that was not there when I did the oil change. I read that overfilling the oil can lead to the oil being whipped into a foam by the crankshaft and air bubbles being introduced into the oil. Anyone else have any experience with this? I have the 4.0 V6. Thanks.
