Oil pressure gauge doesn't move..

I just got a '93 4Runner and it seems that the Oil Pressure Gauge doesn't ever move. I may have seen it move a couple of times, but nothing that would make any sense. Last night we drove all around town and kept an eye on it, it didn't move from the far left (L) the whole time. There is plenty of oil in it.. I've read a couple posts that say it may be the sender or the gauge itself.. or both I guess. Does that sound right?

Any ideas?

sound about right. on my 94, my temp gauge was kinda freaky. i could tap the gauge and it would drop to cold instantly, and tap again to get it to pop back up to normal reading.

if you can tap the gauge to give mis-readings, then its a faulty gauge, if not, then probably a faulty sensor.

I'm not too mechanically inclined.. yet. But I'm just curious, if there is plenty of oil, no leaks or anything either.. then this is something that doesn't have to be replaced immediately right? :dunno:

I mean, I do want to know what the real oil pressure reading is eventually, but it shouldn't really cause any problems if I don't get it fixed right away, right?

I think it became an idiot light.

if you can tap the gauge to give mis-readings, then its a faulty gauge, if not, then probably a faulty sensor.

I've also seen it be a wiring problem -- either the sensor wire got cut or shorted out.

Hello,
The sending unit for the guage is most likely the problem
It is available seperate and just unscrewes from the block
Its an inexpensive part to try before replacing the guage unit

Had this same problem on my '90 4 cyl. I had inadvertently unplugged the wire from the sensor while changing the oil filter.
