I was changing the oil filter on my 2000 4R (3.4L V6, 155K miles) and I busted off the oil sensor or switch (plastic portion of it). Is it a switch or sensor? Also, how hard is it to change? Requires a 22mm socket I think. Is it necessary to remove skid plates to get to a socket wrench on it? Any tips to remove it would be greatly appreciated.

One other thing to note. Even though the device is broken off, I do not get a check engine light or any other indication of a problem. Strange. It is still driveable with no leaks.
