Oil?

i recently had my oil pan replaced, and also had her first oil change (87, 22re, rebuilt 150k+-) and my shop, whom I trust a LOT, used castrol gtx 5w-30. I might switch to mobil1 synthetic at the next change, as I will probably be doing them from here on out...

Hello,Synthetic motor oil has been pushed recently as being better than regular motor oil. Synthetic motor oil was developed for high performance racing engines and is good for vehicles with high performance engines and it works well in extremely cold climates. Other than that, there are no proven advantages to using synthetic motor oil versus regular motor oil although many oil change shops would like you to believe that. Synthetic motor oil is considerably more expensive than regular oil and if you choose to use it during your oil changes, the cost may exceed the benefits.

Yeah mines now clicked over 250k miles and Ive been told to steer away from synthetic since its done so many miles. I just use the high milage conventional 10-30 for now, might change to 5-30 for winter, gets cold up here.

After I had my head gaskets done my mate filled it up with synthetic and it started dripping all over the place (I have a few small leaks) and also the oil pressure went way down to about 1/6 on the gauge when fully warmed up @3000rpm. I just had the oil changed back to conventional and the pressure sits on 1/3 now and I only get about half as many drips.

I use mobil 1 synthetic for high millage vehicles (blue cap), it has stuff to treat seals. Synthetic is the way to go, I use synthetic transmission fluid too.

thats kinda what ive been thinking... unless your gaskets are already shot, some of the newer sythentics might be beneficial.. idfk. Ideally, at the next oil and filter change i would like to change diff,tc, and transmission fluid, aswell as plugs and maybe wires.
I would like to switch to all synthetic fluids, but we'll see about that as the time comes. Ill get plugs from toyota, and have to research plug wires. I want her to run her best of course
