Oil

With 162k or so on my '99, what kind of oil should I be using in it? Since I bought it I've just used standard oil. Is it time to switch to synthetic or high-mileage? It's time for an oil change so I thought I'd see what y'all recommend. Thanks!

Either synthetic, or a synthetic blend is fine. You can go about 5k. Everyone uses something different, but its a pretty safe bet with the "newer" technology

this same type of question has been asked and answered about a bizillion times on here do we realy need another tread on oil?

I used to run non-synthetic back in day.. around 140k, I decided to switch to Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30 with an oem filter.. Since then, I've been changing it every 5k..

Before I made the switch, I ran Castrol GTX 5w30..

there are other options out there too, I.E. Pennzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, Amsoil and etc..

I personally use Mobil 1 and right now, there is a coupon in the Costco Booklet that's $9 dollars off 6 quarts bringing it down to $26 dollars from $35.

my .02 cent.

This has and will always be a personal choice and you will get people that like dino and say synth will cause leaks, and you'll get people that like synth and say dino doesn't last long enough. Would you rather pay twice as much but change it half as much, or would you rather change it twice as much and pay half as much. Your engine isn't smart enough to care.

Most of this forum is repeat threads, in case you haven't noticed. Do we need another thread on lifts? Starter contacts? Tires? Wheels?

That's what I'd like to know? Does synth really make a difference? Especially if I don't drive my truck that much. .07 miles to work. .07 miles home unless I stop to get something to eat. Occasionally go to the Texas hill country every other month. Probably put 7k to 9k miles on my runner a year.

I use the Mobil 1 high milage full synthetic with the Mobil 1 oil filter. You can get the oil @ Wallymart for $24 for a 5 quart jug. It's the cheapest place I could find it and for $30 you can have a full synthetic oil change. Not bad in my opinion. I think the engine runs smoother with the syhthetic then regular dino oil.

Unlike my last oil post i say... ... dealer is 49 bucks Canadian... let them do it...lol

They recommend every 8000 kilometers but I dont let it go over 6... I believe they use some sorta esso product..

With out a turbo that needs class 4 oil to cool it properly and not bake on the bearings/bushings... i dont think it matters at all that its not synth.
