oiling my frame

NHOU is one that hasn’t been mentioned yet. It’s a similar product to fluid film from what I understand. I recently brought a rust free beauty back from Washington state to PA. Did a lot of research and went with NHOU (New Hampshire oil undercoat). Lots of videos on website as well (a bit promotional but shows the spray process which would help if you do yourself). No long term review yet, but the undercoat has survived a few drives in rain as well as direct water during car wash

Valid point as FF does wash off as I stated for quite sometime. I am curious how your cosmoline holds up. Por 15 is paint. I have yet to find anything better though in doors and rockers or inside sealed frames then Fluid film as for its creeping around abs coating feature. Ff will not penetrate rust and it's never supposed to. It's a covering nothing more

I tried transmission fluid etc and it will not creep around like FF. So please let us know how your Cosmoline holds up. As I am curious for a solution that works best in the well wheels that wont power wash off.

I am also curious how beeswax will hold up. I haven't tried it yet but seriously thinking about as it goes on as liquid then turns to a solid so it wont creep but my not wash off.

So I am looking for a solution for the fender wheels at this point.

One of their sprays is thicker and stickier than fluid film and will hold up in a wheel well for the winter. On the general undercarriage it will last longer than a season. Maybe you can find it online, it’s generally 1/2 the price of FF as well.

I have to look into rust check. FF works great inside things and my corroseal seems to be a decent primer I just looking for that perfect covering for the metal that wont wash off.


I am thinking raptor liner for the fender real and front fender wells themselves.

I like atf and gear oil, I quit using used motor oil because of the concerns of acidity mentioned by someone else but I do use used gear oil. I use fluid film inside the body panels of my Miata even though it doesn’t get driven in the winter. I just continually apply costs of various oils and fluid film to my 4runner frame and it seems to hold off rust pretty well, and sticks fairly well once it gets a coat of grime built up. Wd40 also works well and I use that too

I'm going to use this stuff -
KBS Coatings 75101 Cavity Coater and Wand, 17.5 fl oz.

Looks to be a great product for coating the inside of the frame. I spray the exterior of my frame with Rustoleum BBQ Paint and have been doing that since my first truck in 2000. My frames always look great, and rust is not much of an issue down here in TX. I do plan to wheel my 4Runner a lot more than I ever did anything else, so I want something that will stick around. This stuff is designed to go inside and coat the cracks and cranny's of hidden panels. If you let the can warm up to about 90 to 100 degrees, it thins right out and goes a long way.

Should work good for you as Texas isnt rust belt area.

It's a wax. So it's something similar to a wool wax, FF or cosomile base to it. That's the only way I know of to be able to creep around. I am suspecting a base of FF / wool wax etc in their formula.

How often should I oil frame? I'm in Southern California but my car is from New Jersey like I said before. The frame pretty much only has some surface rust on the welds but nothing else, it shouldn't really spread down here right?

You should be fine. Once the vehicles leave the rust belt and get throughly clean they should just about stop rusting. If you want to coat it thats up you. I wouldn't hurt anything.

Being the environment your in. I would wire brush the welds paint it with corroseal. Then once that's dry paint it with a decent paint and see how that holds for you.
