Ok for all you bolt on slider guys, how's your gas tank?

Ok guys I got my sliders welded and it worked out great. Now It's time to punch some holes in my frame to bolt them on. All good right... Right until I saw that there's no clerance between the frame and the gas tank. It's tight. Real tight. How did you get around it? Drop the tank and hammer a little on it? Or what I'm short on ideas.

Weld a nut onto the plate, so you dont have to worry about it being held inplace by a wrench taking it on and off.

LOOSEN the tank, and, using a bar, pry the tank away from the frame, and put something in between the frame and tank to keep it from going back.

Drill your holes from the outside in. BE CAREFUL not to hit the tank.

Slide said bracket onto the frame, insert bolt, should be good to go.

That sounds like a great solution! I wasn't sure if the tank had the wiggle for it when loosened. Good to hear it does thanks!!! Finished pics will be within a week.

OK. Might be a little more difficult than I thought, but it can still work.

I thought the sliders would go around BOTH sides of the frame, not just one.

In that case, I would still do the same as above, just weld a plate to the back side of the frame, for all three peices. Even if it's just some 1/8". That way, you'll never have to worry about having to balance the sliders on your knee while you're unbolting them, or worrying when it's going to bust your face open.

You don't have to solidly well them all. Just run a couple beads around the plate. That'll be enough for it to hold.

Make sure you do it when the slides are ON. That way, you don't have to worry about the bolt not lining up with the holes, and the holes not lining up with the nut.

Basically, put it all together, then weld the nut and plate in place. It'll be a bit of a PITA now, but you'll be glad you did it in the end. I did it for my custom crossmsmber and it's awesome. 3/8" thick steel is HEAVY.

Yeah I thought you meant make a plate and weld the nuts to it lol. It should go pretty smooth I'll just save the plate and all the ****ing around for when the front and middle are all bolted up right. I'm stoked now I just need the time!!!

If you're going to do the back side by the gas tank, do it all man.

Minus well.

Take a piece of 1-1.5" wide, 1/8" thick steel. Cut the plate to match the slider width. Drill two holes that match the slider mount holes.

When you put the sliders on, put the plate on the back side of the frame when you run your bolts through.

Tighten the bolts to the proper torque specs.

At this point, you can either just tack the nuts in place, or burn half of the nut to the plate.

If you just tack the nut to the plate, you're going to have to take the bolts out. If you just weld around half of the nut, you'll be ok to burn it onto the frame as well.

Trust me. Not having to worry where this nut rolled to, where that lock washer or washer went is a great feeling. Plus, you just need one hand for tightening instead of two.
