How will adding material to the fender reduce trimming?

I just trimmed mine to fit and lowered bumpstops to prevent rubbing when bottoming out.

You already have a fender flare that hides the fender cut pretty well once done. I took a solid inch out of mine. You have took at it pretty hard to even tell I trimmed it - some of my lines and transitions in my arch are a little to sharp.

I'm only on 35s, but I have a ton of room in there. The biggest thing that would stop 37s for me now is the actual inner fender tub. I had to hammer on it a lot for 35s to not rub at full flex.

This. I think your fender flares are the least of your worries. To do this properly you're going to have to cut out your inner fender wells and retub. Unless you are willing to sacrifice some suspension travel. Then you also need to consider downstream stuff like your steering system, I know you upgraded to the Tundra rack and heim joints so I think you're covered there. Then you have your axles, diffs etc. Lots of things to do if you plan on running tires that big and actually use your truck offroad.

In my opinion it's not worth the work and reliability hit. I'm even debating if 35s were really worth it with the breakage I've already seen on my last few trail runs.

at full stuff my 33's rub the fender. i'd need to tub it just go to 34's lol. i cant imagine anything bigger. you guys are crazy.

OP, I’d recommend you read Xtremeluck’s post a couple times. Lots of wisdom there from a good driver who’s taken his rig on some tough trails.

Then again, if it’s a pavement princess/overlander rig (even with the marlin crawler and 4.88’s) then the 37’s wont stress your drivetrain and you’ll probably be fine.

For myself, 285/70’s or 285/75’s are gonna be it for our rig unless we go insane and SAS the front. The rear axle is bombproof to 37’s, IMO, but that front end, especially locked, is a grenade waiting to go off.

I’m excited to see what our mildly lifted/tired rig can do with 157:1. Slowly dragging/scraping in some places is expected. Winching (gasp) as needed when turtled is fine by me. Spraypaint is a lot less expensive than replacing overburdened parts on the trail due to tire size, IMO.

JailbreakOverlandr something to look into: C4 just came out with an "oversized tire fit kit" for 3rd gen tacos that looks really nice, they say they'll be working on a 5th gen 4R version, though not sure how long it will be until available. the taco kit looks legit.

cant wait for the 4runner kit. do i need it?naw, i just want it lol

IMO, Get a vehicle that can handle 37’s with a SFA. My old ‘71 with 13 X 37’s. Front and rear lockers, compound low manual gear box, 300hp. Great hill climber and deep water. Not good for narrow trail’s though. I would have a Jeep if I wanted 37’s or larger.

Nah bra, I'm going 37s, cause I say. It's surly just a check on an order form like the the overland roof rack, coilovers, and wheel spacers.

Fender flares are the least of your problems if you want to actually use/stuff 37s. You're going to have to cut the shit out of the cab.

Well crap. I didn’t know I was missing the spacers.

I think Richie is adding the RCLT HD upgrade, which replaces the spindles, upper and lower control arms, and steering system, and moves the axles forward a couple inches. It can run tires up to 38". Probably $8K plus a week or two in labor.

RCLT changes the conversation entirely. He can do the same trim I did and probably be fine. It'll depend on how high he sets his bump-stop.
