Ok need help.. Noises WTF (Deal breaker?)

Ok so Ive got this 4runner from the dealer til Saturday. 06 Sport Edition V6 with 100k on it. Immaculate inside and out, no signs of wear anywhere. Service records out the ass. But I noticed there is a constant ticking noise.. My buddy seems to think its the solid lifters... Is this a common problem? Also. I can get the 4wd into 4 hi but it will not engage 4lo? whats could be the issue with that... Other than those 2 concerns Im happy with the ride... Are these issues a deal breaker?

If you are shifting it correctly and it's not going, I'd want a major discount or I'd back out of this.

I even broke out the manual to make sure I was doing it right... 4 lo light just kept blinking... so I put it in gear and rolled forward a little bit... it just started beeping... never locked in

the ticking is an ongoing issue with the 4th gen 4runner, unfortunately, the stealerships just blow it off as a noise that's common to toyotas. I don't get it, they can't engineer a gasoline engine that doesn't sound like a diesel? it's toyota afterall, gimme a break.

Its ghetto as hell.. I mean you pull up at a red light with a nice clean vehicle but it sounds like a ratted out 1992 sentra... wtf? so is it in fact the lifters?

After some checking around on here its looking like there may be a good chance the actuator is stuck. Id be surprised if the vehicle has ever even been in 4lo... I have read of a few people tapping on the case with a mallet or something to that effect in effort to release the actuator ... Anyone have any pics of where I need to start smackin????
