Just ordered my ultra-gauge. Supposedly a low-cost alternative to Scangauge.

Should be here in a few days. We're taking a road trip to Vegas and Death Valley over the Thanksgiving weekend - should be a good tryout for the gauge!

I'll report back how it works after the trip...

Well, since we all know 4runner fuel gauges suck big time, I'm most interested in the fuel gauges like the DTE (Distance to Empty) and TTE (Time To Empty.) I'm curious to know how they work. Since the gauge gets all its info from the OBD-II socket, it can only "know" what the vehicle's computer "knows."

So my guess (and it's just that - I have absolutely no knowledge) is that when you set up the gauge, you punch in the fuel tank size, and then there must be some kind of tripmeter reset that you use when you have a full tank. After that, it's an easy matter for the gauge to measure how much fuel has been used and extrapolate how much is left.

I'm also interested in seeing whether gauges like intake air temp correlate to the outside air temperature (since I have a cheapie outside air temp gauge on my car.) If the intake air temp is close enough to the outside air temp to function as an outside temp gauge, I can lose the little cheap air temp gauge I have velcro'd to my dash now.

Some vehicles have a trasmission temp gauge, too, which is good for those of us with automatics.

Anyway, once it's here and set up, I'll post pics and let you guys know how it works.
