I'm not ready to take the ball yet, but I will mention that I made a spur of the moment run up to the Ouachita natl forest on Saturday. I went to the southern portion near Broken Bow. Its a badass area with tons of logging roads and trails to explore. Only about 3.5 hours from Dallas.
Ill post some pics today or tomorrow. Definitely a destination to keep in mind.

Anyone want to get the ball rolling on a spring meet/ trip?

It might be tough to have an actual drive, but a meet up camp one or two night. Possibly fish. I was thinking maybe around taliquah on the river? I

Or it can just be a meet up. Doesn't matter to me. I just need lots of planning.

I'd love to do an overnight camp-out or just a day trip/ meet down to the Broken Bow/ Beaver's Bend S.P. Area. Maybe do some short trail runs in the Ouchita NF and fishing?

In my experience Broken Bow is a lot nicer than Talequah and not so much of a drunk-fest. I haven't been down on the Illinois river since college though, so things could have changed.

By today or tomorrow I meant 9 days later...
The pics are sort of backward in time. This trail I found had parts that scared the sh!t out of me, so I didn't get pictures of the really gnarly stuff. Narrow as hell and so freaking steep the view out of my windshield was nothing but sky and tree tops.
As I progressed, I knew it was really (really!) stupid to be doing this alone but the trail was too narrow to turn around so my only options were to go back down in reverse (eff that noise) or keep going up.

Continued...
I've had this 4runner for 3 years now but this was the first time I felt like I had to rely 100% on the vehicle. In the 2nd pic you can see the left side of the trail is washed out resulting in a gully 2-3 ft deep and about as wide. I spun the tires the first time (in 4H). Backed up, got out, and took the tires down to 22psi. Put it in 4L, multi terrain select "loose rock" and she climbed the hell out of that trail.
My biggest concern (aside from rolling off the mountain) was puncturing a tire. I am so very glad I got the LT Revo 2s. The sketchy parts I didn't photograph were very steep with sharp switchbacks and it was covered with sharp rocks and lots of downed pine trees that I just drove right over. I don't know if P rated tires would've failed, but I'm really really glad I didn't have to find out.

And just so you guys know the level of my stupidity; I had:
My P rated spare
No tire repair kit
No air compressor
No recovery gear of any kind
Definitely going to purchase a few things before my next Ouachita excursion.

I'm in pending the weekend.

Also I'm planning on going to the summit this year. So start saving your pennies so we can make it out there. Probably meet up with the group coming out of Dallas area.

I really wish I could go. I tried, but couldn't get vacation that week. :frusty:

Short notice, but I may do another short trip to the nat'l forest next weekend. Drive up Saturday morning, head back Sunday afternoon.
Depends on if my wife has to work that weekend. I'll know for sure by Mon or Tue.

This time I checked out the area surrounding the Glover River. I love Oklahoma!

Ok fellas, I've never run it myself, but after much research, I've got a route mapped out for a "K-trail" run. It's about 40 miles with a highway crossing (Indian Highway) about half-way. I'm thinking we could meet up early on a saturday morning and finish within the day. So...anyone interested in running the most famous /infamous trail in Oklahoma?! If so, let me know some weekends this spring that might work for you and we'll try and make it happen! Bring anyone along you want with an adequately prepared vehicle....the more the better for safety (and fun).

I can do the weekend of April 25th.

Anyone else interested?
