Olathe Toyota

Did a timing belt job on an 04 6k miles later the balancer came off while driving and bolt was not anywhere to be found. Balancer was rounded out on the inside and key was trashed. Service manager told me to have it towed to my local dealer who stated that the balancer bolt was not properly torqued down during timing belt replacement an the damage was 6k minimum, requiring pulling the engine, new crank, bearings etc.

Local dealer was set to do the work, called them two days later and they informed me that Olathe was in transit to come pick my truck up to do the work in Ks., a 3.5 hour haul. Not once did they inform me that they would be coming to take my vehicle out of state nor did I agree to that. I called Olathe and told them that the vehicle could be fixed where it was and I was not going to allow them to come pick it up. Olathe Service Manager informed me that my truck would not be fixed then and I was on my own. The truck was not repaired by Toyota and I was on the hook for the tow bill to my dealer as well as the tow bill back to my house where I repaired it.

For something that they admitted was their fault and on their dime it was a pretty shady ordeal. I cannot think of any reason that they would be willing to tow something 7 hours round trip if they planned on fixing it correctly instead of allowing the local dealership to do the repair who was giving them a deep labor discount on the deal. Toyota USA was no help and this is all currently at an attorney to get sorted out.
