They would be popular for about 12 guys. There is a reason manufacturers offer the vehicles they do and that's demand. Trust me if enough people demand something they will provide it seeing they are in business to sell vehicles. People can say it's because of safety rules or EPA rules but in reality there's justnot enough demand to justify the vehicle.

Pretty much as was stated above:

-Emissions
-Import Restrictions
-Demand

Those three are big reasons why the vehicle isn't made for here; the cost alone to make it fit for Emissions & US Safety standard vs. the low demand for a vehicle that is built to an old standard (i.e. interior design and exterior design) means that it's more of a loss than Toyota wants to put up with (same reason we won't see a Diesel Tacoma anytime soon.)
