Old Timers?

All I can say is that when 2014 hit, this forum became a turn off for me. At least in the 5th gen section. Definitely not what it used to be.

titantalk did the same about 2-3 years ago. 2010 was the last good year of that forum, ironically when i joined:redbrick: 1st gen titans are now stupid cheap and all people do is LED's, stack leveling kits, and put crappy mufflers on their terrible sounding cracked manifold exhaust systems. I'm a newb here....obviously....but having that "OG mentality" is hard to shake off lol...i have like 13k posts on titantalk, meaning i can talk sh1t on there and not get in trouble, over here on the other hand i gotta keep my mouth shut lol...or at least try.

Also if i do the BMC can i fit 37's on a -18mm offset wheel with Kings preload set at 4" of lift and will it ride plush?:bash:

Talk all the shit you want lol. Just don't ever talk politics, religion and always address the post... never the poster and you will be fine. I'll let you know if you go over the line.:thumb:

Just thankful that most of the guys I bug are still here... Do miss Gary thought. Especially early on he was the only guy who could answer 2010 Limited questions.

Okki

Got to wondering whatever happened to a few of our old timers. Anybody know…..?

Harper7 (Gary)
Qjake (Billy)
Lebengeek (Alan)
Limamike (David)
Jesse1983 (oh, never mind :spy:)

Sup Dave and the rest of the old timers!
Still modding and rebuilding Toyotas, just went to the 1st gen Taco side. They finally shut down the the engine shop in Texas so I had to move/bump to Tulsa.Sold my 4Runner to pay off my IS350 and buy a truck to move.

Got lucky and found a 00 TRD Taco with 80k miles so sold the Runner quick to some car dealer that the owner wanted for himself. He made an offer to buy it before and cut a check on the spot.

Now own 3 tacos as found 2 others cheap that were wrecked that I'm doing frame off restos to build into one with 35k mile engine, 5sp and old school manual hubs/transfer case.
Got a 30x40 shop out back up here so I keep busy.Live out in the country here by a big lake and lovin it. Check in here every once in awhile but hang out over in the tacoma forum..

Great to hear from you Gary! You need to stop by here every now and then just to say hey. What are you doing now?

My first 4runner had manual hubs lol. In the winter you needed channel loks to lock them in!

Anyway good to see you are doing well. At our age... who knows?

Not the same here without you...:noidea:

Kids and work takes up most of my time but I usually creep around here. I don't have a ton of posts but it definitely doesn't feel like I've been here since 2005...

You guys are OLD!

J/K... much respect to the old timers. You guys are knowledgeable and helpful... I've been here since I bought my black 2011 (in 2012), but had to make a new account.

I've enjoyed reading the love affair between Jeff and Pat, and meeting a few at the Cove as well as living close to Jeff... I'm spoiled. I'm thankful Jesse said sayonara (since he sold me some parts)... but sad his knowledge is gone. Just the sheer amount of knowledge from the oldies here is astounding. I'm thankful I can go back and read through the old threads.

Thank you all.

thanks for letting us know you're still doing well, Gary! love the "new" Taco(s) and shop—it's truly an OK Taqueria!

i still consider your 2010 Limited the gold standard by which all other 5th Gens must be judged; tasteful, considered, and well-executed. the breadth of your knowledge and depth of your generosity in sharing it is missed around here.

I'd have to say this is pretty on par. It got to the point where it was the same thread over and over and over. It started getting to the point where everything was repeated and nothing was ever new. And that damn Supercharger thread drove me crazy.

I check back in every once in a while. Mostly to lurk around.

It's when most of the D Bags started coming around. Definitely like you said too, same redundant threads. It was bound to happen.

Awesome! Great to hear from you. Hopefully you find Tulsa more than just OK. :hatsoff:

If it wasn’t for you I never would have traded in my 4th for a 5th Gen. I wanted / needed the Limited but no way could I live with the new extended body skirts. Then one day I was looking through a few threads, wondered what idiot would put cup holders in his bumper, came upon your Trail swap, did the happy dance and off I went to the dealer. I think I had many of the parts here even before the new Truck arrived.

Then there was the day when the shop couldn’t figure out the alignment so I printed out your numbers and told them “Do This Exactly, EXACTLY!” :thanks:

Our loss is the Taco owners gain! Stay in touch!

Maybe not the tread for it but I feel the same way. We went from a friendly small town feel to the warmth of the big city. Meh! Guess that's the price we pay for becoming mainstream. :dammit:
