I think that’s correct. The LG’s are really nice also, had $900 in Best Buy gift cards and popped for the Sony.
Went for the Bose SoundTouch 300 sound bar and sub also - it’s been a bear to set up but sounds incredible. I was using a Marantz slim line receiver with some in wall Polks with 8” woofers and a little Definitive Technology sub, never liked the in walls all that much.
Curious to see how it goes and if they drop the price on that tv in next two weeks I’ll get the price matched. The A1E isn’t Sony’s newest 65”.

Ill just throw this out there...
I was in the market for a new TV a few months ago and was planning on going with an LG OLED. However, I walked out of the store with a LG 4K 55 inch with HDR and 120 htz refresh.
2 reasons: 1) I was standing in the store and I asked myself if the price difference was really worth it. I must have walked back on forth between the two TV's 20 times, and I finally decided that the 4K was just a fantastic picture, despite not having an OLED screen. I know that OLED is what most 4K TV's will be here in a few years as the technology becomes less expensive, but I just couldn't justify it at the time. I watch a ton of sports and Netflix and play some video games, and I don't think I'm missing much by not going with the OLED.
2) The second reason was I got a $1200 TV for $350 out of my pocket after sales and gift cards. I would have been about 800 for a 50" OLED I was looking at.

Nothing wrong with that deal. Still no regrets buying my OLED, but probably not a huge difference between mine and your $1200 one...

82" is pretty awesome. Are those wall mounted flush speakers? Will you be painting the covers to match the wall?
It's not OLED but I finally filled in the kitchen bypass and wall mounted my Samsung 82" 4K UHD display. It still has pretty great blacks and HDR is cool sometimes but I usually have it turned off. We never have to go to the movie theater again.
I'm looking into doing something like this - wall mount 65" TV (not sure if OLED yet) and install in-wall speakers for left, center and right. I'm also looking into installing one of those floating TV stand/shelf things similar to this one:
Does anyone have recommendations for in-wall speakers?

I was using some Polk RC85i in wall as left and right with a Definitive Technology sub and the sound was just okay but my new Bose Soundtoch 300 sound bar and sub blows it away.
I’d reconsider going with in wall speakers. Maybe considers a passive sound bar that offers that 3 speaker array? Definitive Technology has a few options, the Martin Logan looks nice also.
Ended up taking my Def Tech sub up to the man loft and paired with my Marantz slimline and two 1990’s era Bose 401’s...WOW! Unbelievable sound up there - one of my favorite set ups to date.

Doesn't make sense to me that the tiny soundbar would produce better results than proper speakers, in-wall or otherwise.

I have to re-do all the drywall and paint my living room anyway so cutting things up isn't a big deal this time around. I figure in-wall speakers won't sound as good as standalone but these days I don't care as much about it. I never listen to music at home anymore; that only happens while I'm driving. These days I'd rather have something that blends in and doesn't take any space.

Yes, they are Polk Audio's 7.2 Surround with 10 and 12" subwoofers. Driven by a Harmon Kardon 7550HD. The sound is great.
Here is how it looked with the previous TV and before filling in the bypass.
As far as painting them I probably will now. Before we had more white in the room so my wife liked the contrast. Luckily I kept the plastic covers to protect the speakers when painting.

Started looking for black friday deals on an LG C8 when I stumbled upon the recently released Panasonic OLED FZ950 series. From my initial reading it sounds like these panels are as good or better than the LG panels. Several reviewers commented that the shadow detail is better on the Panasonic with less 'black crush'. Sounds like its a little less prone to judder and a little quicker for gaming as well.
The new Sony A9 stuff was just recently released too, and although it looks amazing I can't find it on sale for anywhere near the price of the LG or Panasonic. As of right now I see the Panasonic is about $600 more than the LG C8. Thats a fairly substantial difference, not sure if the Panasonic is worth $600 more. Although I've always been quite happy with Panasonic products.

I just jumped into OLED with both feet. Sony 65" A8F. The picture is beautiful. I do not have much 4k media as of yet but will get by on Blu Ray stuff for a time. The sound from the screen speakers is quite good but I got a deal on an upgrade soundbar so took the package and it sounds even better. Around my area, no techs will touch an LG so they become pretty much a throw away item but several mom and pop stores here do service Sony so I went that route.

Your TV is merely struggling to adapt to darkness but my OLED was born in the dark !!!!!!!!!!
Just watched the latest GoT episode, OMG. So good. And it looked amazing and we could see everything just fine. OLEDs really shine in these scenes.
Going on 2.5 years now with my LG B6 OLED. Totally worth it. Trust me.
Btw you guys bagging on LG make me laugh. Those Panasonic and Sony OLEDs are LG OLED panels. They are LG panels just with a bigger sticker price and different menu system. Google it.

Do you have any intel or suggestions on the other end of the spectrum? My gf is about to move into a place of her own. She was living with a friend who had a nice house with all the bells and whistles, so no personal TV was necessary. Not that it's a necessity now, but I think it would be nice. So I'm thinking of grabbing her something on the cheap and simple side. She's a new nurse who is trying to save a bit of money. Probably the only feature that would be nice is a smart TV. That way she could use my account to watch stuff.

The deals for last black friday were kinda lame like mentioned above, so I jumped on a TCL 55R617 for $500. I'm somewhat of an image snob coming from some higher-end PC gaming monitors and I am very happy with the TCL TV, looks awesome for less than half price of the LG OLEDs. I can tell the backlight zone implementation isn't as good as OLED, with some halo effect with white objects moving on a black background, but the average user wouldn't mind and it has very good black levels overall.
RTINGS.com has some good TV reviews, along with monitor and headphone reviews/comparisons.

If she doesn't really watch local stations, save some money going with internet only instead of internet/TV or internet/TV/phone bundles. I cut the bill in half switching providers and choosing internet only; the previous provider (Cablevision AKA Optimum Online) couldn't get anywhere near the deal Verizon did, and was also credited a year of Netflix (was already a subscriber). My tenants never needed a land line and watch shows with Netflix or Amazon Prime anyway, and they liked the savings.
TV Reviews: Best of 2019 - RTINGS.com has pretty good reviews. You could also buy a cheaper "dumb" TV and get a Firestick or Roku. My parents still have one of those huge rear-projector type TVs in their basement den and my brother connected a Roku to it LOL
