OME 881 springs on the front, super disappointed.

So just a heads up for anyone considering these springs. I have a 99, so the "99 tall springs". I also use tundra 5100 shocks up front. I installed the 881's brand new on the 2nd perch from the bottom. So the 2.5" lift plus a bit extra to leave me MINIMAL rake in the back.

Installed ONLY the fronts tonight, same isolators as my 99 springs used, so apple to apple. I gained 1"- 1 1/8" lift from these springs and they haven't even settled. WTF?

Where is the other inch plus of lift? My truck is stock weight except for an addicted tube bumper. It's not that heavy to drop an inch plus of lift. I'm not taking them off, just kinda disappointing.

I ordered a diff drop, doesn't seem like it's even worth installing for the monster 1" front lift. Gonna leave me a 2 inch rake if the rear (890s) actually lift it 3". Anyone else had this shit? I know they are 881s cause the tag is on them. My springs are also factory marked 99's.

Put the rear springs on. I'll bet it will allow the front to be raised up a bit as it might be being "pulled down" by the rear. Worth a shot before you do anything else.

^ Yeah, put the rears on and see what you get.

881 fronts (w/ top spacers & 1" diff drop) and 890 rears should look like this, cause that's what I have (w/ 285/75R16s)

Yeah I gained about 3 1/4" of lift on 2nd perch with spacer before it settled to about 3 with my 5100s and 881s up front. I took the spacer out because the rear settled and I didn't like how it sat anymore. Definitely lift the back first and then see how it measures.

uh, lol you have 99 talls meaning they are 1" taller than what most 3rd gens came with, and everyone goes off of what most of the trucks had for springs. everyone acknowledges that having 99 talls is basically a 1" factory lift. thats why you arent getting 2.5" more than what you had. also if you want more, move the perch up. personally i think its a waste to buy ome coils or tundra coils unless you have a lot of weight up front that demands a heavier duty coil.

How else would you lift the suspension?

PO is the one that installed this setup on my rig. I can attest that these things "feel" like they are made to handle added weight, because on my un-armored rig, this suspension is harsh as f#$%.

I actually feel dumb when I purposefully avoid potholes in this thing just to save my back, lol.

I hated my 881's when first installed. AFter adding my bumper and winch with steel line its softened up pretty nicely. But if I did it again I would avoid OME all together.

That's exactly why I got brand new Tundra coils for when I installed my 5100s. The stock suspension crashed and banged over every little imperfection, and now on the 2nd perch I got plenty of lift and a ride that can best be described as pillowy. Reminds me of the old '74 Sedan Deville my parents had when I was growing up.

Wouldn't the 99 coils on a higher perch be too stiff because of the preload? I have a spare set of 99's but I was going to buy some Tundra coils to put on the 5100's. I figure the Tundra coils being taller means less preload and thus more plush spring?

....I actually also have an old set of Fox-Fabtech coilovers and cant decide if its worth rebuilding those or going with the Tundra setup if anyone has experience with these?

I didn't want to preload the piss out of my 99 springs. The OME has so many reviews/feedback. I saw lots complain it's too stiff, so I assumed with my bumper and a nice shock it would be ok. I actually didn't get Tundra cause the progressive springs were said to sag/ride harsh over time especially with any front end weight. This isn't a debate, been plenty of those, but it's why I chose this spring. Now? I'll just get coilovers if I don't like how this rides.

I am measuring with the suspension unloaded in the back to alleviate the extra stress on the front. If it were dragging the front down from the back. I see what you guys were saying. This did nothing, I'm measuring hub to fender before and after. So a 1 inch "lift" spring before, I gained 1 inch with a 3 inch lift spring. So still, I'm an inch short, see my point? I even measured my 99 talls with the shit bumper I replaced with the addicted. It didn't even sag the 99 talls 1/16th.

If people want to say OME sucks, well, touche? Lol. Otherwise, I didn't expect a monster truck, but what I expected was reasonable from a brand new UNSETTLED spring. Not the end of the world, but I do think it should be clear to anyone else with 99 talls and or a medium weight front bumper, get a different spring or expect to jack it up if you want less of a rake (like I did).

What center of hub to fender measurement do you have?
I had the same setup, before I sat at 20" with the 99' suspension, after I now sit around 23" and that on the second from bottom perch, maybe a little less now. Honestly, I like the ride, it is a little harsh but I imagine that will settle over time and ARB/winch install. I find the rear to be no fun, it's 891's/5100 and am looking to get LC or 861 in the future, it all depends on what type of rear bumper I get.

Nice this post is preparing me for Monday.... I am going to be running factory 99 talls and 5100 hundred but wasn't sure if I need to move the perch to the second notch to account for the already 1inch of lift from springs....

I honestly would have just kept my 99 talls had I known this would occur. It seems like the 881 is good for minimal lift on stock weight trucks. Add a bumper on the front, and they sag harder then 90 year old tits.

Keep in mind, I have Tundra 5100's. They have 5 perches as compared to Tacoma 5100's with 3.

Not sure where you got your info before buying but thats how the 881 coil is. Quote from toytec.

"OME 881: Stock front weight. 2-2.5 inch lift. Add Top Plate Spacers for full 3 inch"

So if you have 99 coils, you wont get much lift at all without a top out spacer. And if you have additional weight its just going to be worse.

I read Toytec, wheelers, this forums FAQ, and other testimonials.

I stated that my current bumper, experenced ZERO sag from the 99 talls. So I expected a stiffer lift spring, so have the SAME characteristics. The springs are the same height uncompressed. I sat them next to each other before installing.

The 881 was much more difficult to compress so again, proper characteristics for a lift coil. The site does not decipher 96-98 trucks and 99 trucks getting different lift rates. It gives a half inch variable across the board. So on the low end, I should have gotten more then 1 inch lift from these UNSETTLED springs no matter how you look at this.

I'm not here to argue, I installed them, and they are not up to the ratings as advertised. A top spacer or one more perch on my 5100's should have put me nearly 3 inches higher, or 2 inches since 99 talls are lift coils now.

I'm one inch PLUS however much more it settles, LOWER then I should be. I'll unbolt my damn AOR bumper if it proves my point, these springs aren't all they are hyped up to be on the lift aspect. Then you have people saying they ride like ass until you add some armor? You add armor and it's like keeping stock springs with 1/2" lift. Something is off with that picture.

I call a spade a spade, nothing to mask here. Just didn't get what I SHOULD have. My battery is removed, so my +50 lbs maybe? Front bumper, is about stock weight minus the battery. I have my sway bar off too, there is more weight. No skid plates on, all that shit added up is equal compensation to having the bumper. So unless I LIGHTEN the front end over stock, I didn't get but 2 inches of lift, with an elevated 5100 shock.

Toytec, the FAQ thread here, wheelers, or any business advertise more lift.
