OME 881 springs on the front, super disappointed.

Yea I have the Tacoma

While it's likely very minor height differences, look at your perches a bit different then mine.

From 96-98 springs to the 99+, I'd expect bottom perch to yield 1", middle to yield 1 3/4", and top to be around 2.5" of lift. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong.

You'll be happy either way, the 99's are good springs.

I read Toytec, wheelers, this forums FAQ, and other testimonials.

I stated that my current bumper, experenced ZERO sag from the 99 talls. So I expected a stiffer lift spring, so have the SAME characteristics. The springs are the same height uncompressed. I sat them next to each other before installing.

The 881 was much more difficult to compress so again, proper characteristics for a lift coil. The site does not decipher 96-98 trucks and 99 trucks getting different lift rates. It gives a half inch variable across the board. So on the low end, I should have gotten more then 1 inch lift from these UNSETTLED springs no matter how you look at this.

I'm not here to argue, I installed them, and they are not up to the ratings as advertised. A top spacer or one more perch on my 5100's should have put me nearly 3 inches higher, or 2 inches since 99 talls are lift coils now.

I'm one inch PLUS however much more it settles, LOWER then I should be. I'll unbolt my damn AOR bumper if it proves my point, these springs aren't all they are hyped up to be on the lift aspect. Then you have people saying they ride like ass until you add some armor? You add armor and it's like keeping stock springs with 1/2" lift. Something is off with that picture.

I call a spade a spade, nothing to mask here. Just didn't get what I SHOULD have. My battery is removed, so my +50 lbs maybe? Front bumper, is about stock weight minus the battery. I have my sway bar off too, there is more weight. No skid plates on, all that shit added up is equal compensation to having the bumper. So unless I LIGHTEN the front end over stock, I didn't get but 2 inches of lift, with an elevated 5100 shock.

Toytec, the FAQ thread here, wheelers, or any business advertise more lift.

I get about 2.5" front lift over stock with my 881's, 1" lift sleeves and an AOR bumper/winch. Ive ran it a very long time and have not seen really any front sag other than what it lost when bumper was installed.

So with just 881's you get about 1" lift, comparing to your 99 coils you should only net about 1" lift over those coils. Maybe im not thinking this out correctly.

I see what you are saying.

I have let's say 60 pounds off the front of my truck right now? No skids, all factory brackets and whatnot removed, factory turn signals gone, no battery, no sway bar. My addicted bumper is bare and a tube bumper. It weighs give or take a few pounds within what is absent.

It's not like I'm throwing on 150 lbs of plate bumper and winch here. Let's agree on that much. When it is advertised as 2-2.5", I picture 99's installing these and seeing 2 inches. Further more, I am up a perch position on my 5100's, so I expected 2.5 minimal.

I have NEVER seen anyone, ever use these springs and proclaim, I gained 1 inch of lift from these springs. I think I'm without 0.5-1.5" of lift here conservatively. If it bugs me, I'm not gonna ***** about it anymore then this warning implied to save someone else the disappointment. I'm not "mad", I'm just disappointed in what this gave me. I'll order coilovers and UCA next time.

So again, using the 1 inch lift spring theory on 99's, I gained less then their lowest lift rating. I gained 2 inches, at stock weight, with an elevated 5100 shock. Not a bottom perch/non-adjustable shock as most people run. See my point here? I also think any spring will settle a bit, be it 1/4", 1/8" or more. It's just that much less lift they provided.

That's all I'm trying to establish. If people run them, great. If you like them, even better. My point with this was the people who want a particular stance, purchase spacers for a "full 3 inch lift". I don't load my truck heavy, ever. So I didn't want the whole narly raked stance. I wanted as close to level as possible.

If your theory is correct, I will gain only similar height in the rear as well. Which will make me happier, just not having the rake to it. I'll bump this Monday when those arrive and I install them.

I think the problem might be the perch you are set at on the 5100's. Being Tundra 5100 what perch correlates to stock height on a 4Runner? I think that the Tundra 5100 Perches are lower then stock I know the overall shock height is a little longer (like half inch or so) maybe they just need to be on a higher perch. That wouldn't fix the shitty ride but it would give you the height.
I can highly recommend the Tundra springs I had them on my last 4Runner (without added weight) and they were fantastic! Super smooth!

I have 881's on Tacoma 5100's and I got 2" on completely worn (shot to shit) 97 coils and the lowest perch. Gonna move it up one, to lessen the rake but they've been on 3 months with stock weight and haven't dropped at all and they ride like a dream. Zero issues with OME, run 891's and 5100's in rear. couldn't be happier. Shout out to Wheeler's Offroad and Dan for the recommendation,

Honestly it sounds to me like you got mislabeled 880's or something. That would be on par with your height measurements after installation

I agree with you. However, the little paper tags on EACH spring read 881's.

The Tundra 5100's sat level as my prior KYB shocks on the lowest perch. I bumped it UP one just to compensate slightly for the lack of top plate spacer. Again, I can move 3 more notches up if necessary, however this was made to potentially forewarn people?

There is nothing feasibly mislabeled or wrong with my springs or I wouldn't have been so quick to vocalize my experience. I'm gonna deal with them for a bit, cause I have the TRD S/C install coming, I'm sure that will add weight. Nothing helpful is headed my direction in terms of helping these springs out.

I will be ordering a winch anytime, I might as well plan on coilovers when I do that. So people can be on the look out for some Tundra 5100's and 881's with little to no miles on them shortly.

preload doesnt stiffen a spring, it simply changes the ride height. what most people are experiencing when they increase preload is lack of down travel. down travel is dictated by ride height.

As promised, my 890s showed up like 2 hours ago. Installed them, added 150 lbs to the cargo area since my rear bumper is absent. This MORE then supplements the weight my rear bumper will be. I also have a 50 lb sub back there and my tools (40iish lb's).

So with close to 250 lb's in the cargo area, the REAR sits exactly 2 inches HIGHER then my front. So as I initially stated, super disappointed with the front spring stance, I am really thinking I got mislabeled springs. Again, front weight is near stock (missing battery, skid's, and oem bumper replaced with addicted).

Front 881's with tundra 5100's on 2nd perch. Should have lifted me nearly 3"
Rear 890s with 150 lb's minimum more then stock rear weight.

Going to run it with weight in the back for a couple weeks and see if the rear springs settle at all. It rides excellent though. I just ran it around the block and it's super nice riding now. Quite pleased with that aspect considering the rest of it.

I would raise it another perch, but I'm beat! SS brake lines, lift, rebuilt both sway bars/bushings/end links, seized bolts, diff drop, relay for led blinkers installed, aimed my retrofits, rebuilt rear end, bearings, seals, fluids, bled brakes twice, new drums/shoes, and I forget what else I did and the hiccups along the way.

Reference pic for anyone who doubts my OME spring results nonetheless.

It looks level in the pic.

Lol, trust me it's not. Hub to fender is 2" off front to back. It's a quick picture I took standing at my garage door.

The springs from you were packaged very well and arrived safely by the way, Lol, thanks, just wish UPS got here a bit earlier today so I didn't miss my alignment appointment :)

Good to hear. They were shipped to me without bubble but I figured if the box got thrown around they would go right through it. So I wrapped 'em up.

Looks good 99Runnr my trip down 5100 lane didn't end so well today my rig is F*** for the night.... I have to move down a purch because I misjudged my height.. Basically my front is sitting up in the air with my rear at factory height... :nono:

Sucks man!

I will probably learn to live with my rake or I'll just up the front a perch later. As I said, just tired of wrenching on it right now. It rides excellent, I am very pleasantly surprised with that, much nicer then my 99 talls did.

I just shipped my 99 talls off to a guy today. I used paper, but yea, that is how my 881's came. Although the cardboard wall isolated them from each other alright in my case.

Either way, thanks lol. Now under all that dirt and road grime, I'll have nice shiny paint on my springs still :)

Yea I am going to compress the springs inside the assemble on the vehicle and drop it a purch... At least I hope I can make that adjustment with out having to take everything off the vehicle

Totally not worth it man. Use your bottle jack on the upper control arm with the suspension unloaded. Get tension on it and knock the lower bolt out. Remove assembly and pop the spring off that way.

The lower spring perch is cupped and the amount of spring compression you'd need to have room in there is just awkward and harder not smarter.

Good luck man. It's not that hard really. It does suck though haha.
