OME 881 springs on the front, super disappointed.

the best way to do it is the unbolt the lower ball joint method, ive done it more than quite a few times, i dont even take the tire off, and because i have poly lowers i dont have to loosen the lower bushings.

D Farms has got it right. Remove the sway bar, unbolt the lower ball joint and take off the middle upper shock bolt. When you lower the lower control arm with the floor jack the shock and coil spring come off apart. Once you do it this way you will wonder why you ever did it any other way.

I think your truck looks good. 1.5-2" of rake is perfect in my opinion. Any truck that's used as a truck benefits from having a little extra height in the rear, both for clearance and resisting looking sagged out when you put a load of gear in the back.

I'm at 24.5" in the back and just under 23" in the front and I'm happy with the stance

This is how mine sits also. I love it. When wheeling that extra clearance out back helps not to get hung up with a the stock tow hitch. Anything you clear up front you know your good out back. Sitting level and it was harder to judge.

Also when loaded it levels out pretty good. Never have the sagged out look which just looks horrible on an SUV.

I still use the dinosaur method I described cause it's equally as fast for me with stock LCA bushings. I can undo all bolts/top plate nuts and use a small screwdriver to position the bottle jack in the time or less that it takes to undo the cotter pin/castle nut, loosen LCA bolts and undo the top nut. To each their own but nothing is harder then attempting to compress and raise the perch IN THE TRUCK :)

I went and got it aligned today. Drives good, went right into spec and they got me in and out of there in 20 minutes. Pretty good for Schwabs. $50 bucks and it will hold me over til the Icon's show up. It's really shitty when you find out you have a friend who can get you lots of parts at just over cost. :gun5:

Update to this for anyone who may be researching 881's later with a front bumper.

Tundra 5100's, 881 springs. I got the truck leveled out how I wanted it. In order to make the 881's match the lift of an 890 this is my final setup, keep in mind, I also accomodated for the drivers lean.

Front suspension consists of Tundra 5100's and OME 881 springs. AOR tube bumper with 10k winch. DRIVERS side is on perch 4 of 5. PASSENGER side is on perch 3 of 5. Sits level within 1/16 side to side after alignment/50 mile settling drive.

Rear suspension consists of Tundra 5100s, OME 890 springs. AOR tube bumper (95 lbs) and 115 lb's of misc item's/stereo. The rear sit's 1/4" HIGHER then the back with everything loaded. Perfect minimal rake for me.

23" hub to fender lip (SR5 factory flares) on the front.
~23.25" hub to fender lip on the rear.

So it sounds like you got everything figured out?
The measurements seem right around what I have (double check in AM). When you say drive on 4of 5 and passenger on 3 or 5 is that counting from the top down?
Also you have me a little worried being I didn't offset the front, I believe I did both at the 4th perch, (another reason to measure in AM)
Wonder if I've been driving around with a lean this while time:behindsofa:

That is from the bottom (1 of 5) towards the top. 5 of 5 being top ring. I had about 5/8" of lean to my drivers side. Some people have claimed more, like 1+ inch of lean.

I wanted it to sit level across the front, so my best shot at curing it was just moving one ring up on the drivers side. I didn't throw spacers or anything like that on there. Definitely a nice feature of the 5100 shock in general, the Tundra especially as it's got 5 rings versus just 3 on the Tacoma series.

So did you get it where it should be? Still disappointed? I run these coils with ome shocks. 1 inch lift sleeves and Toytec driver spacer to fix lean and she sits perfect.

That's interesting, counting from the bottom up I'd be set on the second perch. Honestly it seemed like it would be a pain in the ass to go even to the third perch, not to mention getting the dam claw out of the spring once it's compressed all the way, it must have been a ***** to do. It's been a while since I measured so I'm going to do that and see what I get. I was thinking of getting rid of the rear spring but it's been pretty good sinse I lowered the back seat and installed a platform for my trip to San Diego, and now my dogs loves it, thinks it's one big mobile playground for him, so it will stay like that for the time being. If anything I'm going to get 861 for future ( rear plate with tire carrier)

I went for level ideally. I also had 33's installed today, so I felt that it was necessary to raise it up more to avoid clearance issues, aside from my preference. Somehow, I got SUPER lucky and it sits perfect.

As I said, 3/16-1/4" eyeball rake to the rear. That was with 55 more lb's then it will carry consistently as well. So, yes. I'm happy now, would have rather done it just once, but you know how that goes.

I normally use the compressor, actually I did every time I've ever touched springs. Lift or lowering in this application. I didn't rent one this time, I started it at 1 am on a whim realizing my 33's were going to rub like a ***** the following day. So I just dropped the LCA and used my jack. I do NOT prefer this method though.

The first side, upon lowering the arm down the spring put too much pressure on the jack and shot it out from the arm. There isn't a whole lot that can go wrong, but I am definitely faster using the bottle jack and compressor outside the truck.

I also had to fight my retaining nut on the top of the shock for some reason. It felt like it was cross threaded, I couldn't use my impact in the truck due to space limitations. So I had to use a 7mm box wrench (small) and the open end of a 19mm wrench. It was a ***** and I feared it was going to round the top of the shaft and I'd be stuck. It worked out, I ran a tap/dye over everything and it went together smoothly after that.

Here it was today. Winch is pulled cause when I swap longblocks this weekend the bumper is coming off. My AOR rear bumper came today, painting/installing that tomorrow so it's kind of a basket case but it's almost there.
