OME 882 vs. 881's with top plate spacer

I was looking on "www.cruiseroutfitters.com" OME coil specs and read that the 882's are the same weight rated coils as the 881's but are about 3/4" longer free heighth. I know some guys on here are running 881's with top plate spacers which net 3" of lift. I also read on Sonoran Steel's website that the OME front shocks are too long. So i guess my question is, would it be better to run the 882's instead of the 881's with top plate spacers? With the OME shocks being too long, wouldn't the top plate spacer create problems with added droop, thus affecting the c.v. axles? Please shed some light on this subject!!! :shrug:

since the 881 can use a top plate spacer....does the strut need to be taken apart to put on the top spacer or does it just go on top and attached after the 881 coil is assembled. cause im wanting 881 now and later i want to add the spacer and wanted to know if going to have to take everything apart just do add the top spacer. thanks

Honestly, I'm not sure! KellyJ has 881's with top plate spacers installed on his rig. Maybe he would know for sure. I was under the impression that top plate spacers are mounted outside the coil and shock assembly. Please anyone out there, could you help us out? I want to install the right thing first!!

I have 881's and love em (no spacer) 882's are if you have a heavy duty (ARB) front bumper per slee offroad Slee - Toyota Tacoma Suspension

I am going to add a 1" body lift to eliminate the minor rub on the inner fender with 33's. the guy I bought the 881's from went to 882's and he already had an ARB installed and he said it rides pretty stiff.

Yes, like drinkmolson said, the 882s work much better with added weight. You will ride stiff with 882s and a stock front end. And if you do end up adding weight and want the 882s, I reccommend getting 883s instead. They ride the same but won't sag over time. I'm very happy with my 883s.

I was in the same boat. I was told 882's will ride stiffer unloaded. Plus they may give too much lift without the additional weight causing issues with CV's.

I went with 881's and a TO spacer.
