Ome 890 with 5100 problem?

Finally loaded up my 4runner yesterday for a trip to the mountain. 4 friends and some gear in the truck, on the freeway the 4runner slowly start to hop. My other buddy that was in my 4runner also have a 3gen with ome all the way around, saying that this is not normal. What you guys think? It hop or bounce abit when loaded, unload drive fun! Setup is tundra trd 5100, ome890 w/tacoma5100s! Need advise!

Your sig says you have 5125. You said you have 5100 What do you have? I have the same exact setup and I actual thought it was a little "bouncy" unloaded. I had to get an adjustable Panhard bar to fix it because when I was unloaded the panhard bar was at it's most extreme angle and if I hit a bump it would make the rear end pull a little which made it feel bouncy.
 
I have ome 890 and 5100s in the rear of mine. Definitely rides better loaded. I don't really get a lot of bouncing up and down. I get a lot of side to side ass wiggle driving it around though.

I also,have a Panhard adjustable bar too, the shock am running are the 5100 billy that trailgear sell for the tacoma.when it's unload ride fine, loaded a but bounces

This might be the reason ome and shops recommend ome shocks with there coils. That being said my 7wraps on tokicos ride like stock.
 
Has it always been like this with the lift? Most seem to be using the tundra 5100 for a rear shock (have some ordered from Wheeler's). In my research I didn't read much about tacoma 5100's. Could that be the problem?
 
I have 891's and 5150's. Mine rides firm enough to be considered "rigid" on bumps etc. It hops when i'm unloaded and racing over smaller bumps. I would define "Hop" and verify its not sway. Mine swayed and rear axle went from right to left until i got a pan hard drop bracket installed. I had a bolt come loose in my rear pan hard once and my sway became dangerous until i located the culprit and torqued it back down. (Or torqued it down in the first place :) ) If your hopping is under slower speeds and under load, Id think your rear links have worn bushings or the rear sway bar bushing are worn out. something has to be free, or have a major amount of clearance in the rear end to allow the axle to "hop", or so i would assume.
 
The valving for the Rear Tundra shocks are too Soft for Coils. You'd be better off with the 5100 from a 4th Gen 4Runner.
Leaf springs have less rebound so require less valving then a coil spring which rebounds much quicker, that is what is causing your bouncing.
Look at some valving charts for coil sprung vehicles vs leaf sprung, and you'll see a pretty dramatic difference in rebound damping.
I had OME 890 with the Tundra 5100 like others. Empty around town was pretty smooth. But as soon as you get into successive bumps or especially when loaded you will start getting lots of up and down motion, this is because shocks are not keeping up.
This is also why the stock LC80 shocks work so well with a load.
Do some googling on shock valving of leaf vs coil sprung applications, and there is some good reading somewhere on Sonoran Steels website regarding this.
A lot of people chose the Tundras due to the dimensions, and the fact they came in a kit from SS. But his where custom valved.
And actually I believe he now recommends the rear 4th gen 5100 in his do it yourself kit.
Also I believe the shocks being sold by wheelers as rear 3rd gen 5100 are the same model number as 4th gen.

Now this is interesting. First time I've read this. Maybe this is the problem with mine but I swear mine ride better with people in the back as opposed to just a driver. I'm definitely gonna look into this. Thank you for posting this information.
 
I bought the SS 7.2 full kit last year. Steve uses 4th gen/fj cruiser 5100s n back for the reasons listed above. Tundras are for leaf springs. If you swap out your shocks it should fix the problem. It's a direct fit.

Yes, thank you. I was.thinking of the same thing, cause I have some old 2gen runner rear sway end links! May consider some new bushing soon!

I was thinking about the valving problem too! Make go with foxs or icon! Thank you guys for all the input!
