OME rear coil spring and spacer...can/should it be done??

I ordered a set OME 896 rear coils from Wheelers last week - shoud be here by the 30th.

I wanted to know if I could run both a OME coil spring and spacer. Not sure how much lift the springs will give unloaded but, I would like about a 1/2 in to and inch lift over running just the spacer. As of now I just pump up the air bags to gain that little lift but the ride is a bit firm. If it's too tall with the spacer and new spring I figured I could cut the spacer down to get the desired height.

Anyone running a lift spring and spacer?

you should be able to do but it will depend on the rear spacer type you plan to add. I know the daystar one that cups the top of the coil will not work as the OME coils are a fatty.

I believe cornfed is an add on that just sits on the coil so that should work? I dunno quite honestly which spacer will fit.

but if you can fit it, it will work.

some things to consider: make sure you extend the rear brake lines or else you'll end up yanking them when you over-extend.

also get longer shocks to accomodate for the taller coil/spacer combo or you'll over-extend the shock and blow it out.

good luck!

GT - good info.
I am running the Revteck spacer in the back (see the white at of the coil in the photo).and it has a seat carved out of the plastic to hold the spring. Did not think of a the OME being a fatter a coil coil?
I also have on the shocks that came with the lift. I figures I would sort out flex after I got the ride height I am looking for.

yeah the OME coil is much thicker than the stock counterpart so the revtek spacer may not work. You may have to shave the inside to accommodate for the fatter coil.

Either way it's possible as I had the downey coil + daystar spacer for a few months until I went with a different route.

just make sure to extend your rear brake lines (2) and make sure the shock is long enough w/ the added height.

Are you going to keep the Air Bags? I installed them in my OME 895, and they were a pain to put inside the coil.

Ok, put the new springs in sat morning - took about 2 hours. This rig is super jacked up now! Have to get a pix up so you can flame it. But I love it -sits like an unloaded pick up truck.

The coil is a bit thicker so I just put a touch of greese around the spacer to slip it in the spring, then just pushed down like giveing CPR. Yes I had to run the new spring and the old spacer. Hope they settle -1/2 or so.
Hardest part was getting the track bar back on. Had to take that off and the swaybar to drop it down far enuff to get the new coil and spacer seated. Due to the 6 inches of lift the track bar was off to the right just about an 1/4 of an inch. I had to use the jack to lift the p-side or right side rear wheel up as far as I could - just stuck it under the axil and cranked. That centered it a bit more but still had to push on the side of the truck to start the threads. The rear axil looks centered - guess it has to be if I have the origional track bar in? If it's off a bit, it's too little to notice. The sway bar is way stressed and the break lines will have to be sorted - very tight at full flex.

I kept in the air bags to use as bump stops. But they do not touch the spacer - yet to load it up to see if the air bags are worth keeping. The springs are 3 inches longer than stock so I have a 3in gap between the top of the bag and the spacer on the top of the spring. I did dump 140lbs woth of plates 2 -45's and 2 -25's in the back to see how it drove with some wt.

I'll get pix up soon.
