I just saw a pic of the interior of a 5th gen....did they do away with the 2wd-4wd hi-4wd lo selector on the dash?

Yes. It's pretty much the only thing I like about the 5th gen. They went back to an actual lever for the T-case control.

I'm pretty sure the 4runner is the only vehicle that has ever gone from a stick to an electric dial and then back to a stick, with the exception of the very rare FX4 version of the Ranger that I think was only available in 2001 or 2002.

It's back to being an electronic knob now on the 2013+ SR5, the TE still has the shifter though. If I recall correctly, the only 5th gens that had the lever were the SR5 and TE (and now only the TE).

The LE has a similar electric knob as you guys because it also has a similar transfer case differential like you guys I believe (no 2wd mode on the 5th gen LE).

The SR5 and TE have no differential in the transfer case, hence the lever I guess?

I could have sword the lever was mostly for show on the 5th gens rather than a true manual shifter.

I think it pretty much is, lol. From how I understand it, even after you shift your lever into whatever position you want the transfer case to be in, you still need to wait for the front differential's electronic ADD gizmo to finish sliding the sleeve over to connect the front drive shaft together before 4wd engages.

I think the lever itself is a mechanic lever that connects straight into the transfer case though, I can definitely feel the drive line vibrations and all that through the lever.

I really like the 4WD dial selector. Not a fan of the lever taking up cup holder space.
