dude, no need to antagonize the guy. The arrogance is coming from the guy that doesn't understand the difference between open and closed differentials. And why a car doesn't move when it is in park. Not to mention the numerous other threads where you have asked questions that are very short of being mechanically inclined. Such as, should there be oil on the outside of the rear axle seal.

My point is don't try and be so aloof when you yourself aren't a mechanical god.

It's interesting (well not really) but had I not had a CEL and had to replace plugs a few months ago then I would have installed a Aussie Locker in the rear diff prior to learning how to change the plugs.... Just saying this to say that mechanical ability and confidence sometimes takes a very non-linear path as different problems and projects pop up.

I can tell you that several people have had issues with spark plugs coming loose from improper installation. Sometime having them blow completely out of the head stripping the hole requiring a helicoil. Also there is no way to visually pop the hood and see they are loose unless you remove the coil packs on the passenger side or the boots on the driver side since both those items completely cover/ obscure view of the plug itself.

Bigmike- I am sorry about your luck and hope that the rest of your ownership is trouble free and full of happy excursions.

Okay so I was a little rough but we're not talking God status here. Every guy should be able to pop a hood and check the basics. I can wrench my own vehicles once I overcome the learning curve for an entirely new vehicle. I estimate I've saved about $6000 in maintenance and repairs by doing my own work on this truck that I've owned for 6 weeks now. But you're the guy that's more brilliant than all the transmission engineers at Toyota. What other genius advise would you like to share with us today.

A) pull over and check it out
B) turn up the radio a little louder
c) frown and crank up the tunes
D) drive faster to get to where you need to be

Most of us that wrench, would choose A. My wife would have chosen C, but then wouldn't tell me of the problem for a week.

Again my delivery was harsh. The point is why buy a used car that you know you can't fix or even know when there's a problem? Second, why would you buy a used car and then go on a long road trip before you have thoroughly checked it out or had it checked out and then complain that it ruined your trip?

I distictly recall thinking I wouldn't take the truck on a long trip when he posted his oil change thread. So in a way it was kind of predictable that something would go wrong. Murphy's Law tells us so. LOL

But in the end my point is valid. Get ready to bend over and take it in the ... when something breaks. If you don't know whats wrong, you'll never know if you are being over charged. So my second point was, you better have a good job, cause you'll need it.

And lastly I was sincere when I said I feel for you. It sucks to get raped by a mechanic.

Haha I remember that thread! If I had to turn my brand new rotors I would just take them back and get new ones! For the 24 bucks you would pay to have the rotors turned you could upgrade to some better rotors!

Sorry to hear about your troubles BigMike, they should be few and far between though. If it doesn't work out that way atleast this community is here to help when you do run in to problems. Seriously Drcoffee, the last several posts by you that I have read have been pretty condescending. You are not bringing anything useful to the table, just insulting. Chill out and give some actual advice, other than "learn more about cars before driving anything but a brand new one".

If you are so knowledgeable about these vehicles, then how about giving him some advice for when he goes to the mechanic. Tell him how he can get a fair deal from them. You actually had some helpful things to say in his oil change thread... why the change in attitude?

I TOLD YOU SO! Here is what I wrote back then as a word of warning to Mike.

When you plan a long trip in a hot climate I would change the oil if the you are near the change date anyway. Think of the heat and duration the motor will be running and you said AZ. I'd want fresh oil if it were my truck. Do you know if he used quality oil or even the right viscosity. The first thing I do after buying a new used vehicle if change the oil. It sets a baseline for all my maintenance going forward.

After buying 34+ cars in my life, I've never met a seller who wasn't lying about something on their car. It always amazes me how peope try to hide the obvious and most people wouldn't catch it until its to late. One guy had oil on both rear tires and when I mentioned it, he played dumb. Good grief. Like the brakes aren't acting up from the gear lube. The stories go on and on. Nope, I'd change it now. One less stress or strain on the engine. Consider the differential lube as well. Who knows if that's ever been changed.

Funny story. When I bought my truck last month from an Acura dealer, they handed me a receipt of ALL the work they did to the truck. Wow! I though, I won't have to do a thing to it for a long time. New diff oil front and rear, yada, yada. I changed the diff lube as soon as I got it home. The drain plug on the front diff was and still is seized. I siphoned as much of the lube out the fill hole and replaced it with Mobil1. The question is, how could they have changed it if I can't even open the drain plug? I stripped the hex on and there is no way to budge it. Oh and by the way, both rear axle seals were leaking as well. I got them to pay for that repair. Even when you really inspect a car, you can miss some things. Sellers LIE!.

The last thing I would have done is taken a 1000 mile cruise in the desert. But hey, that just me. Don't say I didn't try to help. Now I get to gloat.

Take them back you say? Two years ago I did just that. I took them back 2 times and even the 3rd set of drums were out of round. So instead of returning them again, I had my local shop turn them. Guess what? They were perfect after that. Even the shop guy couldn't tell if they were true or not before hand, but if you haven't had out-of-round drums on your vehicle before, it gets scary as he// when they overheat and begin to seize on the highway. Before you talk out of you backside, call around to any good brake shop. I have mechanics tell me they turn even new brakes and rotors because they only want to do the job once. They don't get paid for fixing mistakes.


Most all rotors are cheaply made in china anymore. I still stand by getting new rotors trued up on the lathe. I've had it happen with rotors and drums both, from Raybestos to motocraft and AC Delco. They are all mass produced and probably not even cool before they cut them at the factory. Cut them all I SAY! Cut them. Laugh if you will, but I'm not young so I speak from experience.

In the end, its your truck, do whatever you want. But be man enough to come back when your brakes still pulse after a brake job.

From your first day on here you came and told everyone that they were doomed if they were using a tranny cooler. When in reality people have driven 100s of thousands of miles with no pink milkshake or burned up transmissions from a tranny cooler.

Your countless posts asking dumb and idiotic questions lead me to try and be rational with you. However, that has obviously flown above your head.

You would be correct in getting picked on sometimes, mainly because of your signature. I don't feel like reading your rightest bullsh!t every time I am going through a thread. Alex Jones is a hack if there ever was one. It wasn't me telling newbies to delete their radiator housed Transmission cooler for an aftermarket B&M cooler. As I said before, if TOYOTA thought you had a f ****ing clue of how to design their trucks, they would have consulted with you. Now wouldn't they? You get some hairbrained idea that you picked up on the internet and start promalgating it is derelict at best and negligent at worst. You seem to be incapable of understanding why the radiator is used to warm and cool a transmission which is why up until this post I have not entertained your childishness. Funny really. When I encourage folks to replace the radiator and continue to use it the way the factory designed it, I'm in the wrong. But you can come here and post that no matter what your climate, folks need to reroute their trans cooler. A transmission can be damaged by running too cold as well as too hot. But unlike me you can't be taught anything. Ignorance is correctable. But stupid can't be fixed. I mean you.

I have never made any political posts here. But oh how it must offend you to see the words Alex Jones. Tolerance is always lost on the left. Ironic isn't it.

You'll find I spend a lot of time here being helpful. Mike, hope this isn't the first in a cascade of maintenance issues you'll be dealing with. Take it to a good mechanic and have him go through everything. It's better to catch it before it breaks. Let me be helpful here. Change your ball joints ASAP before they fail. By design they stay tight until they pop out of joint. If your radiator is still the original, change it as well. Then take everything else as it comes.

I highly recommend using the search function here to learn all you can about the truck. It's fun and you'll find that most of the repairs can be DIY. Save some cash and learn about the vehicle at the same time. I found that using only one word in the search will give you an abundance of threads to sort thru.

And if you want bad advice, PM tsbt. He full of it.
