On-Board Air Mounting Locations?

Hey everyone! So I'm really happy with how things are coming along with the ol' 4Runner, but the one thing I haven't completely figured out yet is on board air (and a bigger battery lol). I would like to get a compressor mostly for airing up/down with friends when we go wheeling. I've done a ton of searching and stuff, and I am pretty set on getting the ARB Twin Compressor.

The only thing I am having trouble figuring out is where to hard mount it. Initially I thought the engine bay behind the stock airbox, but I am a little concerned about water and moisture, as I love the mud puddles :D Then I thought about under the driver seat, but getting to it would be a pain in the ass and I don't know if it will have enough room to breathe. So then the trunk started looking like a good place lol. In a perfect world, I would love to mount it where the jack and stuff goes cause then it could be covered, but I don't know if it will fit. I've seen people with FJs mount it on to some sort of grille/plate thing on the side panels, but I'm not sure I want to do that to my truck.

Where do you think would be the best place to mount the compressor? Are there any other obvious spots that I am missing that would be ideal for mounting this thing? Thanks!!

im in the same boat here. im trying to find out where im going to mount my setup. i am still in the process of getting parts for my setup. im thinking im going to mount my mf-1050 under the hood at the air box and run a line for the air filter into the cab or something

Now that's actually not a bad idea at all. Still under the hood, but hopefully won't get all clogged up with dust and water. Would you run the airlines through the passenger firewall and maybe in to the passenger footwell then?

i know the drivers side is not hard to get to but i would really have to take a look
 
Theirs nothing wrong in mounting it in the engine bay i have mine their also theirs no issue i even wash my engine bay. If you want you could route the filter to the cabin. If it bothers you. I have all my lines outside to fill my tires and my truck horn i would the interior for something else. Unless your planning on a second battery setup

No, I'm not planning on dual batteries. I am going to swap to a single larger Diehard Platinum shortly after I do this air compressor just to be safe.

I guess now that the engine bay is still viable, I should just figure out how to mount it. I need to come up with something sturdy. Do you have any pics of yours in your engine bay? Thanks!

Damn. Son. Now that is what I was looking for. You make those brackets yourself? I'm assuming you drilled some new holes as well. If so, that might be the move. Gotta figure out if that ARB compressor will fit in that spot though. Looks a tad tight.

I went from that compressor to an ARB, both in the same spot in my V-8. I fashioned something similar, but not nearly as clean to hold them. So yes, and ARB will fit in there.
If I were to do it all over though, I'd move some things around a little bit and put the compressor in front of the airbox, to fit a second battery behind.
And before I switched to the ARB, I used to cover the compressor with a bag when not in use to protect it from dust, but I haven't bothered with the ARB and it's been fine, even with water crossings.

Sounds good. I guess I'll just have to do some measuring and stuff and figure out where I can fit it and where would be best. And just to clarify, when you say an ARB, do you mean the ARB twin compressor or the ARB single compressor?
 
Oh... Good question. I'll have to double check which I have but there's plenty of room around it, either way.

Yah, bracket legs are 1/8" flat stock and I just drilled some new holes through the inner fender. I'm going to add some rubber isolators between the bracket and the compressor because it vibrates something fierce right now.
