? on factory Sirius receiver install

I've searched this and other forums I haven't found a conclusive answer. I just bought a Scion 1807 model head unit off of eBay and plan on installing Sirius. Does the Sirius receiver from Toyota have a CD changer port on it like the XM receiver does? I have an iPod adapter that I want to be able to use along with Sirius and still have steering wheel audio control.

I've read about a Y-adapter from Toyota but I just spoke with Jesse at Metropn and he said you can't buy it as a separate item. I wonder if the Land Cruiser fit kit would work?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think the Scion xB kit will work as it uses an external antenna.

I was thinking of getting Sirius too (have Scion Headunit) and this is the kit I was going to by.

Not sure about the changer ports though, maybe someone on scionlife.com has more info or pics.

Thanks Rich. I finally found a PDF of the Sirius install doc and the the wire harness that connects to the back of the head unit is split to accept another 12 pin male connector from a CD changer so hopefully the iPod adapter will function correctly when plugged in since it's a 12 pin as well.

Here's what I bought:

Scion 1807 head unit
Sirius Receiver kit: PTS31-00052
4Runner fit kit: PTS31-00051
Land Cruiser external antenna: PTS31-60050-EA

This should hopefully give me everything I need to get Sirius up and running on the Scion unit while still being able to use my USA Spec iPod adapter.

If you get the Scion XB kit you will need the mounting bracket for the 4Runner which is around $30. I didn't want to take any chances in the Scion kit becuase I didn't find anyone that had tried it previously.

I also downloaded the 4Runner XM satellite install PDF since it has instructions on how to route the external antenna through the 4Runner to the back.

Hopefully I can install next weekend since I wont get everything until mid week. I'll post the results once it has been installed.

Well, I got everything hooked up Friday evening and it works great. The Scion head unit makes regular radio sound fantastic. The iPod works with the USA Spec adapter and the Sirius receiver harness as well (sounds great too).

Great to hear you got everything installed and working.

I agree the Scion radio sounds much better even with the stock speakers.

I put in some cheap Blaupunc 6.5" separates in the front and even cheaper 6.5" Bazooka speakers in the rear and was able to get even better sound and bass from it.

Rich, I will say that am suprised FM sounds as good as it does on the Scion head unit. However, there isn't a dramatic difference to me between CD's and the iPod on the Scion and stock head unit, like there is withh FM. I would say most of the music channels on Sirius sound as good but you can slightly tell the music has been digitally compressed (kind of like MP3). The news, sports and talk radio channels are compressed more and sound like AM. One thing I do notice is that you have to have the volume much higher on Sirius than on FM, CD or the iPod.

However, I have to say that after only two days with it I'm already hooked becuase of the variety, specific genre's of music, sports and news, and the no commerical thing is fantastic. You kind of feel like a kid in a toy store that gets to pick whatever he wants...the choices are almost overwhelming at first!

Oh yea, in case anyone get's the Land Cruiser antenna and routes it under the kick panels and passenger rear cargo panel through the rear tail light the antenna is not quite long enough to mount in the middle of the roof between the roof rack so I mounted it closer to the passenger roof rack railing. It looks factory though and reception is great.

Is there any aftermarkey solutions to being able to user Sirius on the 1807 model? So I wouldn't have to spend as much on buying something from the stealership?

I'm not sure, but Crutchfield would be the first place I would look. The USA Spec iPod adapter I have has RCA connections that would allow you to hook up an aftermarket satellite unit but you would need a separate receiver like the Starmate, for example. However, I've heard this type of setup and it doesn't sound as good as the direct factory connect kit to me. I'm just not into having a bunch a things cluttering up my console or dash and prefer the factory setup better. But, you know what they say about opinions...:

By the way, I bought the Fit Kit and Receiver from Jesse at Metrotpn.com for $259 total (including shipping) since he was significantly cheaper then my local dealers were willing to go. I bought the Land Cruiser antenna at Texas Toyota for $48 since Jesse didn't sell it separately.

Let me know if you have any questions with the install if that's the route you indeed decide to go.
