On The 3rd Perch Of Bilstein My Tundra Coils Gave To Me

Spindle Contact and Oozing CV's :bravo:

I just installed a lift on my 4Runner consisting of Tundra 5100's and Tundra TRD YY/YB Springs on the 3rd perch up front and 890's and Tundra 5100's in the back. I am sitting at about 3 inches of lift up front.
This was not my first time installing a lift on a 3rd Gen but it was the first time I installed Tundra Coils on the 3rd perch and it was a real pain in the ass to install!
I must have tried somthing like 7 different spring orientations just to be able to force the struts into place! They went in with lots of swearing and bloody knuckles; AND I still have really bad spindle contact!
Is anyone running this setup that can comment on the correct spring orientation for the third perch? I am almost ready to give up on the Tundra springs and buy something else!

I also noticed that both of my inner CV's Boots are oozing grease onto the half shafts :reddance: and that I have really bad contact between the fins on the boots, I already installed a one inch differential drop and I am not sure what to do about this? :help:

I took off the oem cv clamp and put a hose clamp on, now it only leaks after i get full flexed out. To fix that i retighten the clamps

What's the center hub to fender measurement? Body lift at all? I may be wrong but I thought the tundra springs were either the bottom or 2nd to bottom perch on the tundra 5100's

Take a look at Sonoran Steels install instructions. Should point you in the right direction.

Thank you, these are the only instructions I found and from what I understand they say the coil end needs to be pointed toward the frame.
I think I tried this on at least one side and I couldn't even get the strut installed due to the spindle contact.
Does anyone who has theirs on the 3rd perch confirm that pointing in, toward the frame is the correct orientation?

I need to go measure again but I gained like 2.5-3" over stock I still have the stock height written on painters tape over each fender so I will check tomorrow.
I know others have run them on the 3rd perch, my springs are used and I suspect are probably not as high as brand new ones.
What year Tacoma springs are you running? How do you like them?

Running 881 OME springs on mine, similar lift characteristics. 4th perch on drivers side, 3rd perch on passenger. Gave a full 3" lift over 99 tall springs. I had no spindle contact with stock upper control arms.

The sway bar endlinks and alignment didn't work out though. So I purchased SPC arms and all is dialed in now, center of factory spec range for all.

Far as installing, I loosened LCA bolt's, removed castle nut off lower balljoint, dropped the LCA down to let pressure off the spring. Moved the 5100 perch, set it back in place, and jacked the arm up into position.

New TRD coils on the lowest

perch yield 2" of lift. Sounds like those coils are toast.

Well, I bought the taco springs off of local craigslist. The guy had them installed on a 2008 TRD. They are def. aftermarket springs of unknown origin. They are OK the springs are thick and pretty tight coils. Down the road I'm probably going to go with the Eibach springs from Wheelers.
