On the Lot in Atlanta Pics

Atlanta Toyota just got this one in. The salesman said most dealers will only get two or three a month until probably March, and most would be Limited and SR5's. Trail Editions will be Hard to come by for now. Just passing along what I hear.

Locking gas doors are gheigh.

All but the cheapest vehicles these days have anti-siphon screens inside the the fuel line instead.

This is why when the zombie apocalypse happens, you need to look for older cars to siphon gas to fill up your survival vehicle.

According to all the Atlanta dealers I spoke with, most of the Southeast will not be getting any 4WD models or TEs for the first several months. They went instead to northern and mountain regions.

Toyota really takes the time to layout the dash on all their SUV's. So many US SUV's have knobs and no real thought put into the layout or overall cleanliness of them.

uhg....wheels are tucked in almost as bad as the '06 and newer 4th gens. Looks like the wheel spacer sellers are gonna be in business for the next 6 or 7 years with this new generation 4Runner.

It was at Atlanta Toyota @ Gwinnett Place. The Twenty's Just do not look right to me, pictures don't even do it justice. But I think with the SR5's or Trail Edition wheels with some bigger/wider tires, it will look pretty good!

And obviously a fixed mast antenna on the Limited also. Honestly, if I were in the market for a 5th gen, I'd pay a few more bucks for a gas door that unlatches from inside and the antenna built into the glass. Those two simple items really seem to cheapen the 5th gen 4Runner.

That was done intentionally to reduce drag. They actually widened/exaggerated the fender flares. It resulted in the lowest drag coefficient of any full-size SUV. The goal was to improve fuel economy at speeds of over 35mph.

It looks like shit. Forget about reducing drag. Seriously, how much better can it be? 0.01%? Frontal surface area is where big differences are made in creating low drag.

BTW, the 4Runner is not a full-size SUV. It's mid-sized if anything. And if I wanted low drag, I'd buy a Prius. People don't buy SUVs for aerodynamics, or fuel economy for that matter.

Well, the 4runner is a different class to the Highlander and Rav4. If you get down to the nitty gritty...all the Highlander and and Rav4 are, in a sense...a bloated station wagon with high ground clearance, in my opinion...you won't find one rolling up the Rubicon trail...

I mean if you take the Sienna and chop off 6-8 inches from the floorpan, jack up the suspension and put bigger wheels on it...you have the Highlander.

Highlander/Rav4 are car/minivan based 'SUVs'. The 4Runner/Sequoia and LC are 'truck based' SUVs meaning that one time, they shared components with trucks...and maybe still do.

There are very few 'designed as SUV from ground up' vehicles out there...Rovers? G-class? XJ (Jeep Cherokee no longer made)...

In the truck based SUVs...the 4runner moved to midsize class (Explorer, Pathfinder, etc.) in the 4th gen...before that, it was in the compact class.

I believe both the LC and Sequoia are full size class like the Suburban/Tahoe.

In the car based SUVs...the Highlander is midsize class and Rav4 is the compact class (i.e., Escape, X3, etc.).

I don't believe Toyota has any thing in the car based full size class...like Chevy Transverse.

Oh, you might have heard car/minivan based SUVs be referred to as 'crossovers'...which I think is 'stupid'.

I would call the Sequoia a "Suburban".

Sequoia is smack in the middle of the Tahoe and Suburban, and the folding third row seat gives it significantly better space utilization than either.

The Highlander is not an SUV, nor is it "small-sized." The latest version of the Highlander was upsized to better accommodate a 3rd row. It is now bigger than a 4Runner. It is a midsize crossover, competing with the Honda Pilot.

The RAV4 is not an SUV. It is a small cross-over, competing against the Honda CRV and Ford Escape.

Who at Toyota decided the blistered out center cap on the wheels was a good idea? Both the TE and Limited's wheels look like crap because of this center cap imho. Those pics floating around of the TE crawlin' the Rubicon with the center caps REMOVED even look better, not to mention the tires. Most new models of vehicles tend to grow on me even if Im not a fan at first. I like most of what I see in this new Runner but we'll see what what changes Toyota makes in the next couple years to make the $40k a more palatable expenditure.
