My sons and I enjoyed watching the first episode. The show is certainly a clever concept and entertaining. Am curious about what looks like footage shot from a second vehicle. Seems there's another vehicle present.

While I'll always be pro-Toyota over Jeep, I still respect Jeeps and can appreciate what they are doing.

I wish the guys over on Expedition Overland with their Toyota trucks would get picked up by Discovery or NatGeo. You can watch their video episodes here:

Do you think that the show is somewhat staged? some parts of it seem fake to me. For example:

1. The driver, who is suppose to be a hardcore off road driver, speed through a bush and got stuck in mud. I don't have that much off road experience but would think that you should not speed through a bush not knowing what's on the other side.

2. How did they catch 2 trouts with a single half-a$$ fishing hook?

3. The logs in the river seem to be in the right place at the right moment..

There were several things that seemed staged. When they came around a corner and saw the muddy terrain, I told my sons best thing to do is pick a side and put 2 tires on as much grass as possible. Instead, Wu drove right into the middle. Either he is truly an idiot at off-roading, or the producers told him to do it for sensationalism.

Seems most reality shows have some level of staging in order to add suspense. That's why I jokingly refer to them as not-quite-reality shows or pseudo reality shows.

The expedition overland is very interesting. I am watching their videos right now. It's my dream to travel to beautiful remote areas with my 4runner.
 
I find it interesting that Jeep sponsors it and decided to use a TJ - the previous gen Wrangler. That would be like Toyota sponsoring it and using a fourth gen 4Runner.
 
I wasn't impressed at all with the show. I saw the preview and thought it should be a pretty cool show, but it was only so-so. Knowing that most "reality" shows have scripted moments to get better suspense or a more interesting show, I was already expecting some of that...but I don't think those two guys mesh well together. The "pro driver" doesn't seem to be that at all. The survival expert looks like he's only there to lend muscle because the other guy seems lazy or really just doesn't know much. He (Wu) thought of starting a fire by sparking the battery all by himself :bravo:

There were times where you could spot evidence of the camera crew (not that they needed to make you believe they were not there, but rather affected the progress of the two guys). One of the biggest challenges on this first show was "how the heck are we going to get this vehicle through the tight jungle without roads?"...and I noticed points where what must have been the camera truck, had already plowed through an area and then they just show the Jeep driving right through. There were spots that looked to be trails that they were following where "there are no roads". And I found it funny that after all the challenges of building log bridges, getting unstuck from a swamp, and fording a river as deep as their hood...they got stuck on the logging road. :)

Now, I'll probably watch it just to see how stupid it is and how they react to things happening...instead of watching it for the knowledge.

There was good news though...new Survivorman episodes started the same night right before this show.
 
I would agree that the show seemed a little staged and sort of cheesy at some points (mostly due to Wu). But I like that it's on air and if it does well we might see more offroad inspired television.
 
Yeah. Survivorman gets it right. 10 days, no other people, and he shoots his own video.

And I usually learn something watching Survivorman. I didn't learn anything on the One Car show. They didn't even mention their location except at the beginning. If you're just going to drive through underbrush why go all the way to Chile? :)
 
got a little cheesy, but I would watch more of their episodes. that jeep looked bad ass going trough some of that ****
