One idea for stereo mounting

Just thought I'd share this as one potential mounting solution for multiple stereo components in a 2nd Gen (I'm sure it would also work for others, too). Yes, it cancels out the ability to fold down the rear seats for longer items, but if you've just gotta' have the tunes, this is a possibility. If you want a lot of output from the rear speakers, you'd need to box in those upper rear sections--I personally only use the rears as fill, so it wasn't a problem for me. The pass. side rear seatback acts as a nice cushioned door over the CD changer compartment. My sealed 10" sub enclosure fit on the other side, tucked in behind the other seatback. The smaller components were the crossovers for the front 6.5" component speakers, which I mounted in the kick panels for optimum imaging. With the usual rear window tint, everything was practically invisible to outside eyes, and having the second box around the sub helped keep the sound where it belonged--inside! I don't have any plans, etc.--I just measured and cut as needed. Just an idea for fellow music lovers.

Yeah, I goofed on that part--kept forgetting to get any shots of it in the truck. I eventually sold the truck with the stereo--they really liked it, and paid a bit more for the rig. It tucked in really well behind the seat, sitting just below the tops of the seatbacks, and filling wall-to-wall. To gauge the depth, those speakers on top are 6.5". All the wiring was hidden except right at the terminals (the Fosgate amps hide their wiring nicely--of course, these are older models).

nicely done, if u took off the end caps on each amp, put the amps together to make it look one peice, it be hotter, end cap right off the small and left on the bigger one.

Thanks! I didn't know you could tie these together like you suggest--did they have an optional cap for doing this? I didn't have the facilities for any custom work--as you probably guessed from the pics, I built this inside the house, not in a well-equipped shop. Interesting idea, though!

That's definitely the first kind of box setup like that I've ever seen! Looks really cool, bet it looked even better in the Runner!!!

Thanks! Yes, it looked really good in the truck--next time I'll make sure I get shots of it installed (d'oh!). I had never seen one either--just thought the height of the seatbacks would make a decent space, plus give me a better speaker location than those odd factory spots way out back (frankly, not one of the 2nd Gen factory speaker locations is worth much). Put an idea in a tinkerer's head, and this is what happens!
