Open Intake?

Ok so my friend has a 02 runner almost like mine and one day he was driving around the town and turned a corner then gave the runner some gas and his is all stock he hasnt done anything to it and it sounded like he had flowmasters on it when it got up to like 3500 rpms. So me and him looked at each other and are like wtf? So we pull over down the road a little and pop the hood well we come to find out that the top part of the intake where you can pop it open and take the filter out was Wide open. The filter stayed in its place which is good so no dirt or other SH$% got in the engine.


now my question is, is this bad to do?? leave it wide open i tried it with my runner and i got a shitload more power out of it and it sounds more badass. I made sure the filter didnt move at all. Im assuming this is like the deckplate mod??? I think i might find a way to connect the filter to the intake without it moving or falling off. Is that a good idea?

Its basically the same thing as the deckplate mod. Why not just do the deckplate mod ?

If you feel like boosting the economy a little you can do what I did and get the same effect for a lot more money. Just check Ebay for the K&N intake

do we reinsert the air filter or does the deckplate screen acts as a filter? maybe a dumb question. lol.

you shouldnt run with out a filter, its what filters little dirt particles your screen isnt going to filter squat
