This is a typical assumption. Anti-gunners warned us there would be shootouts and blood in the streets if people were allowed to legally carry. But statistics since CC laws have been enacted show otherwise.
I respectfully disagree and I think your perception of "anti-gunners" (depending on how you define one - am I one?) is overly dramatic. Statistics are statistics and nobody knows how they are arrived at one way or the other.
Human nature is far more powerful and, with many (perhaps most) citizens being very imperfect, with guns in then hands of good guys and bad guys, or even one OR the other, bad things will happen more often than not where perhaps otherwise they wouldn't at all or to a lesser extent. Situations where they actually deter are likely in the minority. But this is only my opinion.
