For safety reasons I would rather be able to open a door than to not.

Someone driving a 4runner crashes and flips the car, gets knocked out, car is in drive upside down and I'm stuck? No thanks

Just a quick reminder to the new people in this thread, and why I posted it. It really has nothing to do with vasectomies, stupidity, licking poles, jumping off a cliff, etc.

I want my doors locked when I am driving. I want to be able to open the door when I disengage a lock switch. Simple. All the other stuff you guys think of is extraneous.

Just what I am accustomed to, and it is personal preference. I came from an older generation of cars that don't have this auto-locking feature (as many have pointed out in this thread). I can open the door just as easily when I flick the switch. It is just an extra step that I don't mind doing to open the door.

Your brain works differently in stressful situations. Off the top of my head, fire in the cab, smoke in the cab, car flips windows up and cant get out easily, drive into lake because GPS tells you do (damn it Michael!) or eject-o seat-o cuh.

All these situations are accidents and what I consider to be stressful situations. Personally, I like the fact that I can, in one action, open the door and get my ass or my passenger's to safety. In the case of an accident, if the door is locked I would find another way out to get out asap (break glass, climb to rear doors, etc.). I don't want to have to think about finding the unlock switch or unlocking the door manually. What happens if the switch does not work.

Brb, gunna switch my winter air filled tires with summer air.

Honestly, I wouldn't take delivery of a new car if I couldn't open the doors while driving.

I have a BMW i3 and if you open the door while driving slow, it throws it in park. What an annoying feature!
