Hello there... I am new here, 1st post. I have looked here in the past however, and appreciate the forum.

My question is this. First reaction, should I buy it? What should I look for? I am looking into a 96 4Runner with 183k miles. I am going to look at it in a half an hour, but the seller says it is clean inside and out, no body damage, and runs great.

He is asking 4,000.

is it 4wd? V6 or 4cyl? auto or manual?? i have 223000+ on my 96 so you have plenty of miles left. 4000 sounds good but????

I went and looked at it. It's an SR5 V6. Has a flowmaster exhaust. Drives fine. 4wd seems to work fine. No funky noises when driving it.

Says he'll take 3500 for it, so I am going to take it to my mechanic in the morning. If I get the green light from my mechanic, I'm going to pick it up.

Just talked to the guy on the phone. He says it has a reconstructed title. Now, looking at it, and driving it, I would have had no idea.

I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow and having him take a look at it. Now this question... Since it is a reconstructed title should I just run away from it? I need a daily driver, and don't want to get into something that I am gonna have a ton of problems with.

Is it still a deal if it is a reconstructed title? It's been a daily driver since 05 since the damage occured. I emailed the guy asking what the damage was.

well i would look around a bit more and look through auctions if you want cheap ones, i dont trust unclean titles but thats just my opinion.

Part of my issue is location. I am in Fairbanks, Alaska. It isn't as if I can just drive a couple of hours and find something nearby. We have to just deal with what's here. It comes with the territory.

then buy it as long as you are comfortable with the repair. its up to you

Looks great, but it looks like more than what I need right now. I am guessing the gas mileage isn't so hot on that, and I gotta get the kids to the hockey rink.

Thanks for the heads up... I'm always open to other suggestions.

Yeah, it depends on what kind of damage it was in...if it was not too serious go for it...

I once bought a 95 Monte Carlo that had a reconstructed title due to a head on collision. I'm not sure how things work in the States, but in Canada, in order to have the title reconstructed, the vehicle's chassis must be inspected by a Government approved garage. I took a good look at the car, had my mechanic look at it, and all was good! So bought it, drove it for 6 years, and then sold it to some kid who had it for a couple of years.

To make a long story short, get it looked at by your mechanic. If he says the truck is in good working order, and you really like the truck.....buy it. I never regreted buying that Monte Carlo, and still miss it to this day!

So my mechanic says that the pictures of the damage correspond with the repairs, and that everything was done right, and that he'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I am gonna go pick up the money from the banks and pick it up shortly.
