Opinions on Dayco timing belt kit

Searched the 4th Gen forums only and found nothing as far as input regarding Dayco's timing belt kit.

Also, what is the general consensus on replacing the seals while in there?



My apologies in advance as I'm sure this has been covered ad naseum.

I used a kit from Ebay, from a reputable seller, and a recommended one on here. Volkstoy or something like that was his name, all name brand parts and a good price.

As far as seals go, Im more of a if it aint broke dont fix it kind of guy. Mine were all bone dry so I left them.

I have used Dayco belts before with no issue. I went with OEM when I replaced mine. I am sure Dayco belts are just as good and it isn't like Toyota actually makes the one with their name one it, but I couldn't bring myself to going aftermarket with a timing belt.

I didn't replace the seals. It was too much of a pain in the ass and mine weren't leaking. I am sure it wouldn't hurt, but I haven't heard of them being a problem so I skipped it. Let's be honest, you could replace a lot of preventative parts so you have to draw the line at some point. I figured a leaking seal at some point wouldn't be the end of the world. It wouldn't be as bad as a locked up water pump or weak tensioner that lets a cam skip a tooth.

For something as critical and hard to get to as a timing belt only oem toyota will work for me. This is not the place to try to save a few dollars. I did not replace my seals but I only had around 50k miles on mine at the time. I changed my belt because of age.

I trust the quality of Dayco products.

I'll hold off on the seal kit, just wasn't sure if it was a "do it while you're in there" kinda thing.

I've never used Dayco..I have used Gates belts. Gates is an OEM supplier to many manufacturers (including Toyota). I suspect that Dayco are fine too. They're a big company and I can't see them making a critical part like this that's NOT going to work. But I seriously doubt you're going to same much money....
