Opinions on Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S?

Just curious how many people have these tires and what they think about them. Was gonna get a set of hankook dynapro atm but my friend works for yokohama so he got me a killer deal on the geolandars which I couldn't pass up. Seems to have a lot of good reviews, hopefully they will last as long as the michelins xterrains.

I've had mine for almost a year. 10k of snow, rain, highway & city miles and I have to say these tires were a huge mistake. While it's possible I got a bad batch (the manufacture date showed they were only 1 mo old when installed), these tires have proven to be so bad that I am seriously considering getting rid of them even though they are relatively new and wearing well.

While they have worn well and are fine for city driving in dry conditions, they also flat spot in the cold, spin way too easily from a stop under wet conditions, have hydroplaned more than I have experienced with any tire or vehicle, and are useless in snow. I did a lot of research before I bought these - but I actually consider these tires unsafe on my T4R.

well its an AT tire, but i'm sure others would be interested on how they perform on and off road and in different weather conditions.

I have an '06 SR5 4WD V6 - completely stock (17 in wheels) with about 65k miles. BTW, my H/T-S' are the GO51 models (there are several variants out there). They're good looking tires, too.

I struggled with deciding between all seasons or ATs, and the ratings over at Tire Rack showed very good numbers for wet and snow traction for the Geos. In the end, it came down to the Geos, Destination ATs, and some Toyo OCs with the Geos coming out on top due to overall ratings, price and availability (so much for customer survey quality). Maybe the Geos are better suited for pickups or smaller crossover vehicles, I don't know - but my original Duelers with ~ 55k miles had better performance than the new Yokos. A buddy with a Taco has the Geos and he likes them - but I had a '91 pickup and a '99 TRD Taco (bought back and crushed by Toyota due to the frame rust issue) and those trucks gripped the road better than any other vehicle I've ever owned, regardless of the tires. :cry2:

I wish I had gone with the Firestone or Toyo tires. With winter coming - I have to decide whether to suffer through another white knuckle snow season or bite the bullet and scrap the Geolanders. It's not like I have ~$800 sitting around waiting to be spent - but if these tires perform like they did last year I have to take into account my own safety driving in snowy conditions. I have no axe to grind with Yoko - but these tires really are that bad, IMO.

Yeah i'm sure I won't have any problems with them... I did get all 4 tires for under 300 so no regrets. I just need to get them installed asap before any major snowstorms.

Good luck to you - I hope everyone that buys these tires has a better experience than I have had.

At least you got an insane deal, < $300 is a great price for 4 mainstream manufacturer's tires. If they don't work out then at least you'll feel better about not haven broken the bank on them. I'm still debating scrapping them.

I have the A/T-S tires and I love them, had them for 2 years now I believe, they ride great in town and on the highway, in the snow they are awesome, great traction, great wear, no complaints here at all....I'll be buying another set when these are worn out.

Had my H/T-S for less than 6 months. On 2 inches of snow I was sliding all over the place. They're coming off asap. I think I'm putting revos on.

Got them installed and did a 500+ mile road trip. So far they are great, low noise, good comfort, and good wet and dry traction. Not sure if it's the gas or me but it seems I lost about 1mpg on the highway. Wasn't able to do any driving in the snow yet so I'm hoping for the best when the time comes.

Just took a trip around the NJ neighborhood in the blizzard and so far the tires have performed very well in 6"+ snow. It's been a while since I had some fun in the snow with the 4runner! So far the tires are great! Dropped by white castle while driving around =)

I've been lurking here for a while, but seeing this thread made me feel obligated to register. I pulled off a set of Ht's about a month ago with less than 10k miles on them. These things couldn't hold a gradual curve on slippery roads. The 4runner is an amazing SUV, but with these tires mine was truly unsafe. These may be good tires for use in AZ or Texas, but they shouldn't even sell these anywhere that has a chance of snow.

I'm surprised how many people hate these tires... so far they have performed well in every type of condition I've encountered, even 20" of snow which I drove through in north jersey. I guess it's either you hate them or love them. I don't know if people realize that these are one of the OEM tires on the 5th gen limited 20" wheels. Any of you 5th gen limited owners want to share your experience with these tires?
