Optional SR-5 “Large Painted Overfenders” vs Limited Flares/Cladding

I’ve read the threads on removing and reinstalling Limited flares and cladding.

I’m also aware of the visual differences between the Limited flares and the optional SR-5 Large Painted Overfenders (Toyota’s wording). Especially the lower terminal ends as they integrate into the end caps of the running boards.

My goal:

I’d like to remove my large SR-5 flares in order to clean up any paint/rust issues that may be lurking out of sight underneath the plastic before reinstalling them again.

My questions:

1. Is anyone aware of any differences between the way these two styles of flares are mounted to the body? (ie, are my flares essentially identical to Limited flares?)
2. Are the part numbers interchangeable?
3. Are any of the important parts out of production?

I’m still searching for answers to these questions, but thought I’d throw them out there to see if anyone knows anything off the top of their heads.

Thanks!!

I have no idea, but your rig sure looks nice without the cladding stuff! Is there any evidence that you may have rust underneath? If not, I'd let that sleeping dog lay, personally. You do seem to have more overall gumption than my lazy ass, though.

The only pieces that are the same are the following.

1. Rear Bumper Mudguards
2. Quarter Panel Flares
3. Frt Bumper Extension.

The rest of the pieces are different.

I looked into removing my limited flares/cladding at one point before deciding it would look like Swiss cheese without them. Anyways, I believe the connection methods are the same for the pieces that overlap with the limited flare locations. You should be able to the front fender retainers by removing the inner wheel liner. I believe the fender flare on the rear door has retainers on the inside of the door (where the window track/motor is) and there is also a rivet holding it to the door lip. I vaguely remember someone with flares like yours mentioning that the retainers from limited flares work, but I can’t find where I read that.

Thanks all.

I like the look of my flares, I’m just thinking about removing everything to refresh my paint and address any rust issues that may be hidden.

I have an area of rust on my rear passenger dogleg that will need some new steel and paint, plus some gouging from the running boards.

So I figured I’d do all paint/body-rust-related repairs at once, then do a claybar/polish/wax before reinstalling all the plastic stuff and roof rack stuff. I won’t get to this until spring or summer (or fall more likely!) but I like to plan ahead..
