They will not respond the same (forewarning), do yourself a favor if you haven't already & go test drive one for a day....

I literally went through like 150 pages of the 5th gen lift pictures and just loved it. But I also saw people had a lot of problems.

I have been exploring the option of getting a T4R Trail and then adding the lift and tires, but there seems so much risk to that.

After reading up on here I just see the wheel rub, the millions of options and I'm a bit chicken to blow the money on it not knowing exactly how it's going to turn out.

So to wrap it up. Hundreds of people have added a lift and tires without issue. You will not get much more power out of the 4.0, get over it. I think if you looked over the first 10 pages in the 5th gen section ALL of your concerns and questions will be answered. If not, I'm sure this thread will keep on degrading.

Not sure if this is trolling or not, but I will respond with some points since it seems most of the people on here are really cool. If you have something relevant to say I would be glad to hear it. The 2015 4runner TRD Pro MSRP is $43-$44k. The initial ballpark estimate I got the the SC was $6k. That would put me at $50,000. Any issues I should be concerned about?



Thanks for responding. I was secretly hoping someone would say, "Nah, they're the same color." Because I can't tell from the pictures and videos I've watched. You see red and orange a lot together when representing fire in art and some other applications, but it just seems weird. Thanks a bunch for your input. I guess I need to go white if I'm chicken. It may seem silly to some people, but I've been driving a Prius for 8 years (my 4x4 third vehicles have rarely matched this purchase), so I want to do it right.

If it helps you, I have a White Pro on order. I pre-signed the deal for around $41,800 (plus tax as they do not roll sales tax into the deal here in Oklahoma). That was below MSRP by about $1500. If you call around and ask for the internet sales department, you can get them to deal a LITTLE. Bottom line is, if you ONLY work with just one dealer, you will never really know if you could have saved a little or a lot of money by shopping around.

Assuming you are financing, know your credit score, down payment amount and all that in advance. NEVER EVER Deal on monthly payment, always always always deal on the total sale price and let the payments fall where they fall. It's always better to get 2 (or even 3) dealers competing for your money if you can.

Yea, the down east thing wasn't communicated very well by me. I think our area has a lot of good talent, but obviously I'm not getting with the right people. The shop I used to work with (Island Off Road) closed. They did a great job with what I gave them to work on. I haven't used anyone else and the info I'm getting from the dealership isn't working out.

And yes, I have been searching. Started two years ago looking at the 4 door wrangler and had it pretty set on what I was going to do then through my sheer genius I bought a camper at 3725 GVW and the Rubicon maxes out towing at 3,500. So my new search has let me to the 4runner and I was ready to pull the trigger with the S/C. Just had a couple of details to work out and then BANG no S/C.

Yes I'm a newb. But I still love some off road. Here is my old truck.

Good stuff. Thanks. I will wait to see what the Toyota quote is for using their vendor for the lift and then go from there, but I certainly may need to explore other options.

Well this got a little out of hand, which tends to happen here with questions like this.
I have a caveat to add to my first post that might help you out: the inferno paint really does look red sometimes, so it will match. Sometimes it looks very orange. The red stitching on the inside is really so minimal that you won't even notice it unless you're looking for it. What bothered me were the aluminum roof rails and chrome rear badge; they looked out of place with the overall design so I fixed that.
Bottom line is pick white or inferno based on which one YOU like more, you'll be happy with either one if you forget about the stitching. Or convince yourself that orange and red are complimentary. Like others here have said, I wouldn't trust this guy if he's telling you it will have a dealer installed S/C. He's either clueless or trying to take advantage of you. Give me a few minutes and I'll post pictures for you so we can lay this to rest.

[MENTION=124613]kittyhawksurf[/MENTION] In this picture the rig is stock. I will tell you that this color is a head turner BIG TIME! I get looks every time I am in it. I have since blacked out the 4runner and Toyota badges which does change the look a little more aggressive IMO.

For the record, there are a TON of lifted Toyota enthusiasts right across the line from you in the Tidewater/VB area of VA. Check out the FB group '757/804 Toyotas' and there is a wealth of knowledge about shops and installers local to your area.

Also, I seem to recall some awesome 4x4 shops in that area that were pretty well know for standard installs and custom fab work...Pungo Offroad comes to mind among others

Okay. I talked to Pungo. He originally said he didn't/couldn't lift the 4runners since couple of years ago. But he asked to send him information if I find anything out. He said if I want to lift then go with the Tacoma. I called him today again to report that it's being done on the 4runners and he said to find out if there is a line that runs to the bottom of the strut and then report back to him. He said that will make a big difference. I told him from reading online it seems that BOSS, Icon and many others make suspension lifts. He seems nice enough, but when I call an off road enthusiast/business and they don't send me to do the research. Maybe he thinks I'm just fishing and not serious about using him for the work. It makes me hesitant when a shop doesn't know the options for me.

Thanks man, no level just wheel spacers. I dipped the rails without taking them off which is a pain in the ass, didn't come out perfect, and I don't recommend it haha. I have a Gobi ordered so it's good enough for me in the meantime, but if you plan on leaving them up there for a while I would wrap them or at the least take them off to dip them. It looks fine from a distance but up close there are some imperfections in the coat.

He must be referring to the XREAS lines that run to the shocks.....(someone correct me if I am in error here)
You will not have these....

Bilstein, Toytec, Fox, Radflo, ICON and probably a handful more make lifts for the T4R's!
Sounds like he may not be up to speed on the T4R's......

Nope not trolling and um yes.... paying $6k over MSRP is what I would call pretty damn stupid. BUT with that said if you want it that bad and are willing to pay more than a vehicle is worth..... then you shouldn't be concerned at all. At the end of the day it's your money to burn

this is very crazy IMO. 50k can get you a brand new Lexus GX460. Which is even better on/off road vehicle .

Thanks Saker. And yea, I read that on consumer reports about the Lexus GX460. Seems weird to buy a Lex for off road though.
