Ordering a 4runner

Hello everyone,

I finally decided to order my 4runner the way I want it instead of paying a lot more $$$ for things I don't need. I'll have to wait about 4 months, but I think it is worth it. I am ordering a 05 SE V6 with the following:

-Side airbag/side curtain
-JBL with 6 CD changer
-Carpet Mat set

Do I need "auto dimming rear view mirror"? I am thinking I would probably need that if I am driving a car and there is a SUV or truck behind me. But in a 4runner, you'll be sitting pretty high, so is that necessary?

Also, can someone tell me what is
-Night vision mirror upgrade
-the difference between "security system upgrade" and "anti-theft system"?

Any other options you think is useful that I should get?

One last question for those who ordered your car, did you have to put down a deposit and how long did it take?

I think the auto-dimming mirror is one of the best options I put on my truck. You would be surprised how useful it is. You are sitting high, but the mirror will make a BIG difference. For example, in traffic, it really cuts down of the glare of all of the cars behind you. The side mirrors do not make a difference though! I was not able to order my SE with the mirror but I put the same one in after I got it.

Night vision mirror is an auto-dimming mirror. It reduces the glare. Same thing!! I think the security system upgrade is an alarm and glass breakage sensor. If somebody tries to break in, your horn will sound. The anti-theft system is the engine immobilizer, which prevents the truck from being started without a Toyota key with the chip.

Another option I recommend is the Homelink if you have a garage. It is a very useful option. Also, the rubber all weather mats protect your truck from getting dirty and are easy to clean.

The anti-theft system works with your key. There is no way to jump start the T4R,
all the smarts are in the ECU and if the ECU does not recognize the the code,
no fuel or ignition(don't loose both master keys, the Black ones).

The security addition adds glass and door opening(this can be added later).
If the thief has a key to start the T4R, it will also defeat the security system.
So this addition is questionable. It will not deter the smash and grabbers.

With a little work you can also add the same auto-dimming mirror as they are
available on the after market.

With so few options I would be surprised if your dealer could not come up with a unit,
without ordering it from Japan.

Another option I recommend is the Homelink if you have a garage. It is a very useful option.

the homelink is integrated into the overhead console and can be programmed to open your garage, thereby eliminating the need for a separate garage opener.

i wonder if the Night Vision Mirror upgrade are the auto-dimming SIDE mirrors option like the Lexus already has, different from the auto-dimming rear view mirror! if it is that's pretty cool!

I don't think the GX470 does have auto-dimming side mirrors. I went on the Lexus site and it only mentioned an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It said that auto-dimming side mirrors are not available for it.

hmmm..which car am i thinking of then... mercedes cls maybe...?? i read somewhere that gentex was making autodimming outside mirrors as well as rear view..

Other Lexus models have it, Mercedes have auto-dimming driver side mirror and Bimmer has both side mirrors that dim.

I would not get the JBL system from the factory. Much better audio equipment is available to you on the aftermarket at very similar (or even less) pricing. Factory audio just does not compare.

GMC and Chevy has autodimming outside mirrors

GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe/Suburban have auto-dimming side mirrors and rear view mirrors. Very nice feature to have. Wish I had these on my 4Runner...
