Quick Update! The engine I purchased from them in June blew another head gasket today. John at Oregon Engines assured me that there was not way it was any fault of Oregon Engines and they would not be paying for the repairs. So, I would no longer say I am satisfied with their product.

Here is their warranty by the way: "Oregon Engine Rebuilders was established in 1983 and remanufactures all types of engines for automotive, light truck, industrial and marine applications. Our car and light truck engines come with a LIFE TIME UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTEE to the original buyer. As long as you own your vehicle, we will stand behind our product. If you have any problem with the motor, just return it to our shop and we will repair it free of charge, as long as it has not been abused, no matter how many miles have been put on it! This kind of offer is unheard of in the industry and the only exception is industrial, commercial or marine units."

The warranty doesn't cover the head gasket? What a joke

I'm learing that these warranties are not bulletproof.
Seems like a lot of shops offer them but it can be really difficult if you ever use it.
But for Oregon Engine Rebuilders to just flat out do nothing is unacceptable.

I'm certainly disappointed in their handling of my problems and while I did post my experience here and in my build thread, I don't have any plans to take any other action. Based on my research prior to buying a reman from them, I found a number of positive reviews. I suspect that most of their engines hold up well and I got an unlucky one. The obvious problem I have is that they allege to offer a warranty that they simply don't honor.

If I were local to them, I would probably just tow my truck over to their shop, tell them to call me when it's fixed, and if they refused, take further action. Since I"m 2500 miles away, it really isn't worth the trouble.

Sounds like a lawsuit. But obviously, not if you're in TN.

I have to ask because I have had personal face-to-face experience with these guys. Have you read the warranty in full, and followed the instructions for a warranty issue? #4 in the warranty states: YOUR DUTIES:You must give us written notice, at our address (20740 S.E. Firewood RD., Sandy OR 97055) of any defects before the end of the applicable warranty period, and, upon our request, make the defective product available, at your expense, to the location we designate. Should engine failure occur, oil sample may be required. If it is determined that there is no defect in the product or that the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the costs of storage and returning the product to you.

If you have followed these instructions then they really have no other option but to follow their responsibility as stated in #5 of their warranty, unless you did not send in the signed and completed paperwork?

I have no interest in filing suit against these guys. I'm not even revising my ebay feedback or contacting the BBB. My time is worth more than the headache of dealing with them any further. I'm just posting my experience so others can make an informed decision about them and their business practices. Feel free to post about your positive experience with them. That's just as valid.

The engine I purchased in March of 2016 now has a broken rod in cylinder 6 and is essentially toast. Waiting to hear back from John at Oregon Engines about my warranty claim.

UPDATE: John responded to my email in less than an hour and advised that they would replace the engine under the warranty. He was very professional and I think we will be able to work it out. I'm still disappointed in the engine, but will give them the opportunity to make it right.
