Orlando/Kissimmee area attractions?

Hey everyone,

I'm taking a trip out to the Orlando area but staying Kissimmee area at the end of May. Does anyone know of fun things to do besides the beach and Disney World (already planning on doing those)?

Any good sushi restaurants to recommend?

I'll take anyone's 2 cents, since it's my first time out there.

I really enjoyed Island of Adventure, part of Universal Studios......good rides.

If you want to get away from the theme parks and want to visit some nice springs, Wekiwa springs and Rock Springs are a couple of cool state parks with nice springs to cool off in. I grew up snorkeling the run down rock springs finding sharks teeth and loved it as a kid. They are both on the north side of Orlando, a short drive from Kissimmee.

Out towards the beach, Kennedy Space center has some attractions.....I have never been, but they have billboards all over the place. If you are going out towards Cocoa, Kennedy isn't to far north of it.

If you head south a little over an hour, Tampa has some stuff too. Busch Gardens of course, but my favorite place to visit in Tampa is The Florida Aquarium. I'm an avid reef tank keeper and diver, so that place has me entertained. There's a kids waterpark outside for them to play in w/ a quaint little bar for the parents right next to it!

Ric - thanks for the links, The international drive looks like a good time. I was getting excited about the Discovery Cove thing, until I saw the prices. Something to look foward to in the future. Definately looks like fun!

Sloan - I've been to the one in Hollywood, but I was thinking about checkin' out Citywalk. Thanks for the idea.

Conspearasea - All great ideas, the only theme park we're going to is Disney, since the girlfriend's little sister's birthday falls on one of the days we go. She'll definately be surprised. Cocoa beach was something we were looking into. Know of any scuba diving or snorkeling in that area? Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll find somethin' I like..as long as there's sand and water as far as the eye can see, I'll be happy :D oh btw.. did you pull the trigger on those wheels I photoshopped for you?

If you're looking to do some Scuba Diving, of course SE FL is always a good choice, but a little far from where you will be. There is decent diving over on the Gulf side near Clearwater, a little less than 2 hours. Diving on the East Coast can be great, I've read about some good spearfishing/diving out of Sebastian, but that area can be VERY hit or miss for visibility. I haven't personally been down there before though.

Now up my way ( Jacksonville ) we have quite honestly some of the best diving around, although most don't know about it and won't go anyway because of depths and distances from shore. I rate our diving more intermediate to advanced because of depths and currents, but in the summer time I've experienced up to 100' of visibility!! :cool:

Thanks for the photoshop picture of the wheels, I'm still at work offshore ( I'm a captain on a 120' Dive boat in the Gulf of Mexico) and will be home in 2 more weeks. Gonna go by my friends shop to see if he can order me those wheels or some very close to them.

Enjoy getting ready for the trip, that can be almost as fun sometimes. I'd be happy to help you in any way I can should you need some advice etc.....
 
YVW, but the Discovery Cove is sooooo worth ever penny, they only let 100 people in the park per day, and that price does include a VERY big and tasty lunch. When we went, it was only me and the g/f so when she reserved our tickets, then told me what it cost, I was shocked, lol, but by lunch I was very happy she did, and we hadnt swam with the dolphins yet, lol, its a GREAT experiance if you can afford it.

I think it's cool to do once. I don't know if I would want to really do it more than that.

Isn't it pretty expensive. I've forgotten what it cost last time.

The food is plentiful though. :)
