Oside Tiger injectors

Are the OST injectors any good?

Have a chance to get a set of 270cc injectors for cheap. Anyone have these without supercharger?

Can I ask, why change out the injectors? They rarely go bad and can be cleaned if you're concerned about it. Are you planning on adding forced induction?

270's are stock replacement from what I can remember. I dont see that they would help for forced induction.

Running their 550cc's on mine. No issues as of yet.

What are you running for tuning your monster? Megasquirt? Our booth was right next to the Toytec booth at Overland expo and Miles said you truck is absolutely insane. Wish I was out west I'd love to see that sucker lol.

Unless you are running big boost (anything over 7 PSI) Jay is right, there is no need for bigger injectors...

Yeah I don't know the stock number either. But even if they are identical in flow, why bother replacing something that already works perfectly? I changed the injectors on my 3VZ-E but it was a different flow pattern (stream vs. spray, spray is better) and it helped with mileage a bit.

I believe the stocks are 240cc. If you aren't running any boost, there would be no reason upgrade. Infact it would probably run too rich and you would lose power. Even up to about 7psi like others have said, you still dont need to upgrade injectors.

Its doing alright :biggrin1:

Right now its just got a Split Second piggyback plus some O2 sensor trickery coming from the wideband to help with closed loop.

It really needs to go standalone but i still need it to be OBD compliant for emissions. Megasquirt is tempting me.....

Supposedly this guy on CL says he has 2 sets on other 3.4L 5VZ motors and they are getting 2MPG better and have more power.

My brother who has runs turbos and tunes cars says that it would run rich, and that the computer isn't calibrated for those injectors. The right way to do it is to tune the car to 270cc injectors, but that's hard to do on a Toyota.

Eventually I'll get forced induction, but not right now. Just thinking of ways to get more power. I'll probably run 2jz injectors with the TRD supercharger.

Watch for my write up in the next week or so... That is how you will be able to tune it and it isn't hard.

At normal operating loads the ECU will probably correct for the extra fuel and it should run well enough (unless the injectors are a lot larger than stock). It might get worse mileage, and it will definitely run rich until it's warmed up (which means more cylinder wear as the excess fuel washes more oil from the cylinders, and you might need to change your oil more often due to contamination). Where it WILL be rich is at WOT (wide-open throttle) and since it will be rich there, it will make LESS power, not more. A tuner's trick is to lean out the mixture since an engine will make more power when slightly lean. The problem is that a lean mixture is more likely to detonate, so the factory tunes are always on the rich side (and why you run a little richer mixture with forced induction).

As others have said, unless you need extra fuel to support a supercharger or turbocharger, there is no advantage to going with larger injectors, and if you do you should retune the ECU to correct the mixture (or you will have the disadvantages mentioned above). And the only way to get an appreciable increase in power on these things is forced induction.

I run turbos and tune cars also. Your brother is 100% right. Like stated since stock are 240cc and those are only 30cc larger the ecu should tune closed loop at cruise pretty good. But at open loop WOT you will run rich which will cause power loss and fuel economy loss.

Stock ecus are pig rich. You would want to run a smaller injector to lean it out and gain power. But can be very risky to running over lean and burning some stuff up.

Best bet would be fuel controller like stated above with 300cc+ injectors depending on SC or turbo setup. In my case I would run a small turbo, some huge injectors, EMS and e85 for safe tuning. Race gas from the pump.

Nice, good to see you got the SS working though. You just need to move somewhere with no emission testing like me :P the megasquirt is the shit! My roommate is running one on his Turbo miata and it is sweeeet! It is so customizable it is nuts and the best part is that you have total control, no more fighting the damn stock ecu and its nasty habit of leaning out part throttle boost.

I'll be looking for the write up.

I had a Corolla XRS with the 2ZZ motor in it. Much harder than a civic SI or Acura TSX to tune and boost according to people who have tuned both. The XRS has no return fuel line, and the ECU is much harder to mess with,
