OT: 1971 Corvette Spark Plugs - Looking to upgrade as a gift

Hello all,

I will keep this short. Father has a 71' stingray vette with the 5.4L V8. Usually at Christmas I get him one thing for it, this year I want to get him a set of good plugs for it. I was curious if anyone here had some recommendations?

NGK & Champion are the 'norms' but AC Delco claims to have a decent plug for it too. Came across Pulstar which seems to be good as well.

I am not expecting any 'miracles' here with just a plug swap, just something idles a little smoother, easier starts, does not load up or foul out easily, and if it does anything to the performance or better fuel burn great too.

5.4L Do you mean 7.4L (454cu in)? If so 365 or 425hp?


Or is it the 5.7L (350cu in)?


If it's the 454 the right blend of exotic, functional, cost-effective, smooth running, resistance to loading up etc comes from the NGK Platinum IMHO. I'd want the 3547/UR5GP if it's the 365hp or the 2869/UR4GP if it's the 425hp.

If you want more exotic the E3's might do well for you too. The E3.40 is spec'd for both HP ratings. (In modern engines "magic" plugs like the E3's don't seem to do much but in older, non-electronic engines they do make a bit of a difference.)

If it were mine I'd put in the NGK's. They're tough to beat.

Sorry, yes it is the 350 5.7L (stupid 4 & 7 next to each other on the number pad, not like I should have ever proofread it or anything)

I vote for NGK's. I run them in my '69 F100. It just seems to run better with those.
