Willhickey, I just picked another one up that will be my beach hauler, kid hauler, dog hauler, park my BMW when the weather sucks, vehicle. I've owned lifted 4Runners, this one won't be.
Start with maintenance. Take care of the axle seals and rear brakes you mentioned. Is the trans actually bad? What are the symptoms?
Go through it first. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, PCV Valve, O2 sensor. Then into timing belt/water pump, driveline fluid changes etc if needed or unknown history on any of them. After that its Tundra front brakes, LBJ's, Tie Rod Ends, Steering Rack bushings. (Again, all as needed). Once all that is done, them play with it.
