Our stock fog lights really are just for looks

Has anyone else noticed how little the stock fog lights actually help in dense fog? We had some thick fog the other day and I would switch the fogs off and on to see what kind of difference they were making. To be perfectly honest I could barely tell any difference at all!

Basically I agree with you, that is why I have auxilliary lighting. Although my Hella Driving lights were USELESS in the fog they were great during late night driving on long highways.

If you could turn off the low beams the fogs would be more effective. Also there effectiveness is limited to how dense the fog is.

3rd gens are weak too but with Silverstar replacements they actually made a noticeable improvement as driving lights. Fogs really need to emit a yellow light to really cut through fog and snow.

Here in Central MA its been warm this week and all the snow is melting so its been real foggy. I have a TJM and haven't added fogs and I found that if I turn my headligts off, leaving the parking lights on, the DRL's work very well. They are less bright than the low beams and seem to illuminate closer to the truck. And I did say I leave the prkng lights on, so nothing changes in the back and my front corners are still on.

My first car was a 1980 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel. It had two sets of lights. One was clear & the other was yellow. When you flipped the switch for the fog lights, the white lights went out & the fog lights lit up. Worked like a champ!
