Out with the Old in w. the New

Finally pulled the trigger on a 15 TRP and picked her up yesterday. It was tough getting rid of my 2012 Tacoma, but the 4Runner is just more practical for my every day.

I did the same thing when I traded my 2011 Tacoma for my TRDP and it really feels like I got the grownups vehicle now. Love the 4runner! It does look like the Tacoma is making some modern improvements finally. You are going to like all the extras that the 4runner has over what the Tacoma doesn't have but should. Congrats!

Funny you say that...i feel the exact same way about finally having a grown up vehicle. I guess now that im 30 it makes sense to have something more practical and I'll get a whole less more questions about what i drive.

I have never worried about others perceptions of what I drive. I drive what best meets my needs and if somebody want to label me as a result of what I drive that is there problem. I could care less.

All grown up

Guys, my "grownup" statement was kind of meant as "all the neat stuff(4runner) instead of kind of plain jane(Taco), its not about judgment. I do understand what the OP is saying though. Some people may think this way for some reason. I'm 48 so it took me awhile to get to my grownup vehicle with all the cool gizmos and tech. Glad to be finally be here though.

I'm with ya. Had a couple of neighbors and buddies give me a hard time when I traded my '13 GMC Sierra Denali AWD for my '14 Trail. Most were around " nice chick vehicle" and "I like it, maybe I'll buy one for my wife". To each his own, I really like my 4Runner and don't feel like "less of a man" for driving one. I've petsonally owned everything from a couple of Z71 Tahoe's, a 3/4 Ton 4x4 Suburban, a 3/4 Ton Dodge T-Diesel 4x4, a number of GM 1/2 ton 4x4 pickups, couple of Nissan Maximas, a Cadillac CTS, BMW 328, and a half dozen Ford Taurus company cars.

My first car was an '82 Celica GTS, I've owned a couple of FJ40's and Toyota 4x4 Pickup as well. Out of all of those vehicles, I can honestly say that my Toyota experiences have trumped all others. Someone has an issue with my driving a 4Runner, that's their problem. Screw 'em I say!!!!!

Kind of funny reading you guys mentioning driving a grown up truck.

From my perspective: I'm 74 and my first car/truck was a 1935 Dodge Panel Truck.....

Some of the rigs I've owned would probably make me a millionaire if I had kept them....

Nice rig! Congrats! I went with the 4Runner because it felt younger to me. Haha!

I drove a 2001 Acura CL-S for a couple years (fun car) before "upgrading" to a 2013 Toyota Camry. The only upgrade about it was that it was easier to get in and out of the back seat. Even though it was the sportier Camry, it felt like such an old lady car. Traded the Camry in for my 4Runner and couldn't be happier! It's the first vehicle I have had that I have actually customized (wheels, tint, decals).

As for the "growing up" part, well its all relative right? I'm 30 years old and have owned a bunch of cars that would be typical of my youth. '99 Mustang GT, Subaru STi, a couple of motorcycles, etc. Now that I drive a bunch for work and actually have to be in front of clients and all, the whole pick up truck thing up here in the New York City area gets a lot of comments. I'm big on saying screw you to anyone who judges me, but I thought the 4Runner is a great solution. Very much the kind of rig that defines me and what I like to do, yet not caving in to the "work/professional" pressures and buying a boring four door sedan. Again, its all relative (what you do for a living, how old you are, where you live, etc.).

I'm hoping to keep this one for a long time. Something I can grow into once I have a family and all. Seems like a completely practical ride for the winter and summers up here. Anyhow, enough of me ranting.
