outdoor temperature sensor

looking to purchase an outdoor temperature sensor for my 98 4runner. any ideas? cant seem to find much on the forums or online in general

Not sure of just a temperature display, but there's another route that works. Just may not be the direction you want to go. On our Camry we installed a Gentex auto-dimming mirror that has outside temperature display. IIRC, cost was under $200 and it was pretty easy to install.

You can search for Gentex to see others who've installed their products.

Look on ebay for used Gentex or Donnally (sp?) mirrors. You can get them with auto-dim, compass, outside temp and even HOMELINK. Used they run $50-90 - just make sure you get wiring plug and the temperature sensor with harness.

I picked up one made by Bell that Napa had. It has an exterior temperature sensor and also switches to interior temperature display. It is silver and black colored and the silver almost perfectly matches the silver dash in my 02 Sport Edition.
I looked at the mirror but I couldn't find a used mirror on eBay that they'd actually bothered to pull the whole wiring harness and sensor out with. Plus I don't like having stuff on my mirror.

The one I have is battery powered unfortunately. One of my next projects is going to be to pull the thing apart and solder wires to the battery terminals. I'm also going to use a 5V power regulator and tie the backlight in to constant power. I don't need it to be dimmable and its easy enough to tear apart and replace the LED if it is burnt out. The temp display in the dash of my Audi is always on. It uses a microlamp though and required pulling almost everything in the dash apart and soldering a new one in when it burnt out. It should last at least 5 years though.
