Hi there. My name is Boris and i own a '95 2wd v6. Bought it 2 years ago with 179,000. Now, 204,000.
The truck ran perfectly for two years that I owed it. It warmed up very quickly and overdrive worked in any temperature.
Then the white smoke appeared after a recent trip to LA(i'm from san francisco) and a week later the truck started to shake severly when idling in Drive with my foot on the brake.
I took it to my mechanic of 15 years and it turned out to be a #6 cylinder where the water was sipping through and also messing with the spark plug.
He replaced my head gasket. He said that during test drives after the repair the truck would overheat on the highway. He fixed the problem saying that he removed something that was blocking the water passage.
Immidiately after the repair the overdrive stopped working. I had the truck for a month now and when get on the highway it takes about 10-15 minutes for the overdrive to kick in and then it pops out after about a minute. Sometimes it does not work at all.
Yes, i switch the overdrive button on the shifter on.
Also, it take much much longer for the truck to warm up now according to the gauge. The truck shakes erraticly ever so slightly during warmups and after when stopped at stop light or sign.
There were instances when while driving on the highway for 20 minutes the temperature gauge would start falling, How can that be!?! Interestingly enough at those instances the overdrive would pop out.
I came back to my mechanic with all these problems and after looking at my truck for a week he claimed that nothing he did could have affected the overdrive and the gauge is fine and he doesn't notice any shaking. He also consulted with a transmission guy he knows who said that that's where problem lies...and another $300-400.
All of a sudden i'm reluctant to let this guy mess with the transmission because i suspect that problem might be within the engine.
Since i'm not a mechanic although mechanicly inclined, a plumber for 25 years, i'm hoping that maybe one you, good people, can shed some light on this.
