Overhead Console -Sunglass holder

The sunglass holder in my overhead console keeps opening up. Initially it was just on really hot days. Now it only stays closed on cold days. I figured that I could fix the problem by popping the holder out and bending the spring a bit so that it exerts a little less force (and would not expand quite as much when it warms up).

This will be trial and error to get it right. Has anyone popped the sunglass holder out. Do you have any advice? I want to avoid the usual like breaking something or permanently bending the spring.

I took mine apart to mount my Scangauge in there- here are some pics...

It's not too hard to take apart or put back together, but I doubt the spring is the problem. It probably has something to do with the latching mechanism, or somehow the console is "racked" and the opening isn't square with the lid. There is a cam that fits into a slot to keep it closed, along with a friction mechanism.

I think you should take it out and do some trouble shooting.
