Overhead DVD monitor

Did a lot of searching here, no threads with any meat in them.

I am having some rear seat entertainment installed in my 2010, trying to decide on an overhead dvd monitor, or headrest monitors. I have seen and had many vehicles with headrest monitors, and after them I think that an overhead would work out better (larger screen, covers both second and third row, better picture quality). I, however, have yet to find any posts or photos with overhead monitors in a 5th gen.

If you have photos or have one, how do you like it? If nobody does, well then this thread will have info for mine once it is installed I guess.

Do you have a moon roof? If not, you should be ok. The only concern would be looking thru your rear view mirror. Truckers don't really need them : ). I purchased an aftermarket headrest entertainment sys (Philips 9"). Does the job, and I like the fact that I don't have to shut it off. IPad was a previous work around. Now we just use it for the third row person during long trips. Good luck with your entertainment sys.!

ive been looking at putting some sort of overhead tv in the very back...like in the trunk. so when the hatch is open i can have party mode on and have a tv to watch the football games or whatever while camping or tailgating or stuff...

I've got a drop down in my 4th gen from the headliner, no sun roof, or third row. The viewing angle is a little narrow for those in the second row and JDtyper mentioned the fact it blocks out your rearview mirror. Chances are tho that if you have a full car you can't see out the back anyway. The only real complaint I have is that it adds a little on the headliner. Over time this may become an issue if not properly attached.

IMO the size of the screen doesn't really matter if you put it in a head rest since it is likely 18 inches away from anyones face.

I have a moonroof, but the installer said that he has plenty of space. I held my iPad2 up there and I still have vision out the back window. Not perfect, obviously, but it doesn't impede all.

I regularly pull a camper, so I am used to not having much view out of the inside mirror anyway. I am still unsure though.

Having an Audiovox 10" installed now. $600 out the door, wired up to my aux port for better sound quality. My local Fry's Electronics was around $200 cheaper, but I trust the installers I'm usingfrom previous installs. Peace of mind is worth the extra cash for this install. Will post photos when it is finished.

So far, I am loving it. All but fully blocks out the inside mirror, but as I stated before, I pull a camper often so its a non issue. All seats in both the second and third row have a great view without any issue.

I am extremely happy with the install and with the monitor. The remote works from the front and rear of the unit, and sound quality is great. I tied it in permanently via the aux port to avoid using an FM modulator.

Not a single problem. I would definitely do it again.
